Destroyed by it's own overly cleverness and control.

This amazing story is neutered by the directors choice to go cerebral and withhold any full display of accessible characters. Everyone and everything seems to be kept at a distance.the only Character that you feel any connection with as being a real human being is the oldest daughter. The film withholds engagement at every turn. It almost feels spiteful. This choice by the director is a deliberate one that I think sinks th film.I just was bored by the uneventful pace and tedium of the film. The Director was obviously trying to make a point by going against convention but this cerebral approach killed the film and the serious impact of this amazing true story. I did not really care that much what had happened. This is really bad for a film about this tragedy. If all films were like this one I would never go to the cinem again. In the end a frustrating and big bore.but will be will be.

I disagree, I think there was a real sense of tragedy in the film.

I disagree also. There was a certain detachment, but I wouldn't call it control. I thought the character's emotions were evident and moving.

In times of crisis there often is a sense of detachment because it's too hard to feel everything that's happening. One starts to see the events from outside. That's kind of what I got from the tone.
