Do you wonder if this was just backpedalling?

May he really have been serious but realized he effed his life up by trying to give up acting? I felt this way a couple times due to the outbursts towards the end of the film where he was crying when he got out of the car shortly after the letterman appearance and after he watched the online media spots.

Or is it just really good damn acting (which I figure) and I really 100% was a hoax from the start?
