Meaning of KOKO.....

I just have one question; I’ve noticed that when ever one of the characters receives a visitor the character always sings out KOKO from outside of the entrance. I assume it means hello in Botswana does anyone know for sure? I’ve tried to find its true meaning on the net but was not able to find out for sure.

Its described in the books as being a greeting thats used instead of knocking - so its more specific than just a simple hello but is a greeting. Dumela is used more commonly as a greeting in the books.

Okay thanks for the info. :)

I wish that we can get away with saying Koko in the states. It's cute.

Koko means "knock knock."

iirc it also means chicken

It's an African phrase to replace knocking, as in many less modern villages houses either don't have doors or they're constantly open. It's carried over to modern situations through tradition.

Barbara Kingsolver mentions it in her novel "The Poisonwood Bible".

Dumela Ma, Dumela Ra;
I am a very new in the Precious world and in each season I am fascinated with the world of Africa. I find the spirit that I need in my these a little bit difficult days (not an illness, just some unhappiness about life) in her life and I want to keep & carry this feeling with me whenver I need.

After this long enterance (maybe unnecesseray also) I want to find a good ringtone, maybe the theme of the series and stcuk it on my phone so in every news, bad or good, I will meet it with good feelings.

Is there a chance that you could help me to find this?
Best wishes;
Ayse, from Istanbul, Turkey
