So I'm rewatching this series and I just started episode 27. And MY GOD. Pinako was actually TALL. I've never heard of--
Oh wait. Is this a different Pinako? They're talking about the Elrics trying to bring back their mother so what the hell is this? Are there TWO Pinakos in this show or something? I must've missed something...

This is a late reply but anyway, I think it was just kind of a dream sequence.

I suppose so, but the way I remember it playing out, it didn't seem that way. It was just odd and confusing for me.

It's the same Pinako(: gotta remember that in one of the later episodes, she is looking through a photo album of her in her younger years with Hohenhiam
