I know what you mean those two are always at the very top for me. These shows are good as well, but FMAB always wins for me personally. Here's what I got:
Fate/Zero: This action fantasy/tragedy series is about seven mages battle for possession of the Holy Grail. An artifact that can grant a miracle. It sounds simple but the whole set up of the story isintriguing and mature. The show doesn't mess around and isn't some goofy action series that forgets it has a serious plot.
Ergo Proxy: This science-fiction/philosophical series might not be for everyone since the story is complex and sometimes confusing (along with only occasional moments of action) to the point that a second viewing would be required to really understand it. But it is definitely one of the best. The setting is in a futuristic city where humans and androids coexist. The story begins to unfold when a series of murders are committed by robots (known as AutoReivs), these robots have been infected by a virus known as the Cogito virus which makes them self-aware.
Kino's Journey: The story is super simple: A girl travels from place to place and observes the people. It's sounds boring but it's actually really interesting and delves into lots of ethical issues. Definitely a good watch.
I know I will be hated for saying this. But please don't bother with Code Geass. Some will recommend you it because you said you liked Death Note. I tried it for the same reasons and was very disappointed. The premise is somewhat similar to DN, except the series is filled with almost every anime cliche, not to mention about a million "deus ex machinas" that make no sense. It isn't even close to Death Note's level of quality. It really isn't worth your time.
