what a load of pathetic self righteous propaganda

I'm interested in psychiatry and psychology for various reasons, schizophrenic father and depressed alcoholic mother growing up.
I have a lot of negative views for both subjects, as i do with law, or journalism?

but overall i look at them positively.
without the drugs my father would have been desperate to lock me in my room and keep me away from him believing i was some kind of cctv robot spying on him etc?
and my mother after a long time in rehab (6 months) spent time on prozac, as she had to re enter a completely new world, one without alcohol, she was consumed by guilt and fear. She was weaned of this slowly, but i believe without the medication and counseling she would have gone back to drinking (she has now been clean and sober for ten years)

i mean how many people have really spent time with someone schizophrenic, or with someone who is suffering from psychotic depression? if you have you can understand how necessary it is to use medication to help, ALONG WITH APPROPRIATE COUNSELING/THERAPY.
i don't think that the problems lie in medications themselves, and i believe it wholly unfair to claim psychiatry a pseudo science. My cousin has completed seven years of med school, is now doing a specialism in neuroscience, and plans then to do psychiatry, the people working in psychiatric fields are no less educated than those in other medical fields... science is never knowledge, there are no definite answers to anything. Therefore it is unfair to say that their is too much of a muddle in the subject of psychiatry. Of course there is, it is a fairly new science? When people first started looking into auto immune diseases, trying to differentiate them, or understanding how to treat them, there was an awful amount of trial and error and there still is, just like any other medical investigations?... hey some people still don't believe aids exists and its some big medical scam for drug companies to make money? sound familiar... people have an issue with psychological illnesses because there is no truly clear cause, i say this is still definitely in need of further an continuing investigations. We are an incredibly highly evolved species, we have the ability to really feel a wide spectrum of emotions, and communicate them in a range of ways, so is it not possible for there to be dysfunction in that, as well as all other areas of brain function? If someone eats some bad take away and throws up, there is a particular bacteria causing that, but if someone suffers crippling anxiety in which they suffer excruciating migraines everyday resulting in frequent vomiting, its all well and good giving that person migraine tablets, but what about the cause of them, it shouldn't be treated because its not a physical cause but a mental one?

I don't think the problems lie in psychiatry and psychology themselves, but in in the practice of them. And i don't know how much can be done about that short term? I do feel it is appaling that many psychiatrsts abuse there positions, care little for people coming for help, and dish out drugs in order to keep a flow of cash coming in! I feel that before medication is ever an option in depth psychiatric evaluation should be carried out, and suitable therapy suggested, it is when partaking in this therapy if the issue is deemed serious etc that medication should be considered.
I think that a lot of people have a few bad days and feeling down go to a psych say they're depressed and leave with a bunch of pills? and it is the selection of psychiatrists that do this that allow their profession to be undermined.

Another problem is, we are all human, and we all have widely different perceptions on the world around us, affected by everything we have ever known, this results on widely differing beliefs, thoughts, views, knowledge and possibly the small minded ignorance that comes with believing in something to the core. And this therefore applies to psychiatrists and psychologists as well! And for a profession that works mainly with issues with perception it can be dangerous? There is no way to make a chart of right and wrong thoughts, wright and wrong beliefs etc A psychiatrist that spends a long time with a patient that shows persistent and consistent behavior associated with borderline personality disorder and shows signs of depression due to their inability to regulate emotions, may be deemed suitable for mood stablizers, or ssri's. This means that the next time this doctor come across a patient that reminds him of this previous one he is likely to jump to the conclusion of a diagnoses, spending less time, and less etc or maybe the psychiatrist has lost their husband or wife and will show little compassion to others who are unable to cope with their loss, as they were able to cope with theirs? lots of little things that will all effect how work is practiced..

wow i am seriously rambling a load of thought process.

any-who, im all for a program that highlights the corruption within any given industry, and by that i mean absolutely any given industry in the history of time has had elements of corruption its unavoidable and its interesting when intellectual informative and balanced arguments are presented, with a good deal of factual debate from all sides involved. What i can't stand is a program fuelled by a small minded belief, by no doubt someone who is somewhat educated, goes around collecting damning meaningless empty comments from people once involved in a field, (former because they were fired, disgraced, or because they found the field corrupt, or they feel unfulfilled? this is never explained) all sorts of editing to constantly take comments out of context, little factual evidence, incredibly bias and unsympathetic etc etc, the sad thing is, there are people who watch propaganda and take it as gospel, after all that is its intended purpose, for people who no better it fuels a further disrespect upon the people involved in the creation of the "documentary".
This documentary serves absolutely no positive purpose, it serves no rational, long lasting ideas as to how one might start to correct this deemed "conspiracy"
i could keep going but i doubt anyone would bother reading this far anywho...

Basically the DVD highlights the fact that money is senior to the well being of people and children.

Also the main thread running through the DVD is people take recourse to medical practioners etc for help for themselves and loved ones. Unfortunatley these people are given medication or electro-convulsive therapy etc when they are most vulnerable. The drugs and treatments have incredibly destructive side effects and by and large in the short term and long term the people live a reduced and in some cases incapacitating life.

Anyone who opposes this dvd has to really study there own life and experience and ask some realistic questions regarding quality of life and the use of drugs or electro-shock as a "quick fix" as opposed to more long term alternative treatments.
