Lobsters

Why do they kill them so cruelly now!?!??

reply

There's really only two effective ways to do it: split the head and body end-to-end with one knife stroke, or drop them into boiling water. On 'Good Eats' Alton Brown suggested putting them in the fridge until they go dormant, first, but in a time cooking contest, they just don't have that leisure.

If it helps any, imagine what they would go through if they were eaten alive by a predator, in the wild.

- What are you gonna do, when the world catches on?

reply

Well just "tearing them apart" cannot be much different then being eaten by a predator. I don't understand why they have to be so cruel?

reply

That's my point: They don't suffer any more or less when they die in the wild, than they do when they're cooked.

I think the issue is the need editors have in showing it over and over again like it turns them on or something. Like "Get the MONEY SHOT!...Oooh baby, YEAH!!"

But I think Alton suggested the freezer, not the friodge, for the humane way.

I remember a chef saying that all crustaceans are mean and wouldn't be as nice as we are if they were 9 feet tall and got a hold of us. Lol

That's the worst rationalization I've ever heard! XD

reply

But it was funny! Lol

For some reason I was reminded of the lobstrosities in "The Dark Tower: The Drawing of The Three" by Stephen King...
Dad-a-chum? Dum-a-chum? Ded-a-chek? Did-a-chick?

reply

I have to read that book. Lol

reply

Supposedly, lobsters feel pain when being boiled. I don't believe it and I think that way is more humane than stabbing a giant knife into their brain.
