Did Katya ever really have a chance at winning?

Thinking about the entire season, Katya seems to be a by product of Alaska's edit. My theory was pretty much confirmed for me when Katya didn't win after the massive fan vote. We were going to love her no matter what but I don't think they ever thought about crowning her. From the performances on the show, Detox was really the only other option at the crown. She wasn't a good foil for Alaska though. When they decided to feature her as little as possible I knew that Alaska was going to win. You don't push your number 2 aside the number 3 unless there's a reason. They really wanted to play up the whole Alaska vs Jinkx part 2 thing and I think that it started well before we noticed it. I'm happy for all of the top 4 though.

I don't think so. I've said this in other threads as well--I think Katya's a little too odd for mainstream tastes. As much as this show wants to market itself as subversive, it's turned an underground art form into a commodity. Alaska is more of a chameleon--she can appeal to a wide arrange of tastes and is multi-talented--the best representative of the brand.

Everyone who wasn't Alaska had no chance to win; Ru made it clear that she was going to win in the first episode.

From the 1st mini challenge chil'! She ripped off Laganja and played off her "death drop!" The read on Roxxxy was funny though! 

I've seen Katya perform and that ho can slay !! So fierce !! Drag Race didn't show 1/10th of her talent.

In all truthfulness, I voted for Katya to win only because she was the only non-Rolaskatox in the top 3, because I was not happy with the teaming up of those 3. But really in hindsight, Alaska definitely deserved the win...

In season 8 Kim Chi also beat Bob the Drag Queen in online votes, by a landslide, but Bob still won.. So RuPaul is clearly not taking them into account, much if at all.

After rewatching the All-Stars Season 2, I don't even think Katya deserved the top 4. I think it should have been Alaska, Alyssa, Tatianna, and Detox... If we'd have seen more of Tatianna maybe she could have been the strongest competition for Alaska.. Katya was good and very funny in a lot of moments, but not All-Star good.. She comes off as flat in a lot of areas. Especially with her runways. I didn't even like her final runway look. It was so bulky and the material looked cheap. Adore always good hammered for wearing bulky outfits without cinching. But Katya wore those bulky outfits often. And her makeup is always the same, always understated. She's not a fishy queen, so she doesn't look beautiful, and she's not a glamour queen so she doesn't glam it up either. She is a comedy queen, but her makeup never represents that.. She doesn't look bad, I think, her makeup just is very basic, and understated. Not All-Stars winning material at all...

I think the Bob and Kim Chi situation is different in that Kim Chi and Naomi's stories weren't built around Bob's win. Like Alaska, Bob was never not winning but unlike Alaska they didn't twist it into the possibility of anyone else winning. During the live reaction Kim is staring right at Bob because she already knew.

Regardless of whatever is taken into account, like Mama Ru always says, the final decision "is MINE TO MAKE".

I kind of agree, though I do believe Katya would have had a solid chance to win if the game was played fairly--something that was initially agreed on, but was thrown out the window to play favorites.

The top four was a bit disappointing, and it sucked that we had a repeat of Rolaskatox; because Roxxxy should have been eliminated half way through the game. She has had one of the worst, if not the worst, progress in the history of the show. It's embarrassing that someone who was consistently horrible stuck it all the way through, while Alyssa and Tatianna were viciously thrown under the bus.
