Everything was Catherine's fault

I dont like the character of Catherine at all and feel everything that happened was her fault and it easily could have prevented. First in the beginning when she sees the text message sent from one of David's student to David's phone, and she got suspicious of cheating, I really dont understand why she didnt just ask David about it.

Then later on for the entire plot, when she met with Chloe and Chloe lied about sleeping with David and him coming on to her, why would she believe a stranger like Chloe (even though she made it very believable!). If Catherine was that worried, a good wife would have confronted her husband and simply make further hints then ask directly ask what's going on. All she did was waste her money spending on Chloe!

The writers made her character far too unlikable and bitchy but it did make sense why the son and David didn't really like her.

Of course, if Catherine did this, we would have a far shorter film; and I think a far less interesting film as well.

The film, I think, is really about what happens to Catherine when she doesn't have love in her life -- we see that it is not pretty: she spies on her husband and her son, and this only further isolates her.

And, the film is about how Catherine finds love again -- not from your usual sources, either.

Well, people don't allways act like flawless saints...

But most of all, Catherine was stupid. If she wanted to know if her husband cheated om her, why didn't she ask for photographic evidence? Then slso, he couldn't deny it.
But then, of course, there wold be no movie.

She was the client, not David. Chloe caught up on that.

reply

Right.

And Chloe knew what her clients wanted, even if they didn't say...

Funny thing is, Catherine even reminded her of this fact quite strongly in one scene.

I disagree. She had to do it because he didn't exactly tell the truth (his affair with students is left ambiguous but there is a chance he still got some 19 year old tail). She was looking to catch him in the act to go forward with divorce proceedings. However the whole thing just went terribly, terribly wrong as the hooker she picked ended up being unstable.

Chloe fell for Catherine.
