Why do a lot of "affair" movies have to end with a death?

Fatal Attraction, Matchpoint, American Beauty, Damage, ... and this one of course.

It seems the only thing that can cure an affair is the death of someone.

Pretty sad :-(

It's much deeper than that if you notice Chloe actually let herself go,she had a chance to survive but chose not to,it's the most complex character i know.
