Where to get the film?

Hi,

Does anybody know where I can be got? Any kind of quality and translation will be fine. It is already more than half a year after release and I cannot find it anywhere to buy or download. Any help will be greatly appreciated, really waiting for this masterpiece for the whole year already.

Thanks for any information.

This is a PAL version in Czech only it seems (but might have other language subtitles - the last Czech DVD I got did.) You'll need a all-zone (region free) player.

Here is the info for the Czech Film company that controls the film. They can inform you as to which US distributor has the film.

Here's the Czech link:

Here's their email.

Write in English (You might use a translator tool, but they should be able to figure out your request.)

If that doesn't work get in touch with Zeitgeist Films in the US. They have distributed most of the Svankmajer films. They might have information.

Good luck!

Yes we are waiting for this...

Here's the link for the Google translator tool (there are others)...

http://translate.google.com/

You can paste the material here and select languages or you can paste the URL page link and it will translate the whole page.

It will also translate a letter for you to paste into an email. (Keep in mind that the translation tools do render languages in simplistic terms. They have a hard time with slang. Write with very standard English.

One can get the Czech DVD if you have a region free DVD player. (See my other posting somewhere around here.)

I wish you well in your hunt. I'm desperate for this myself. I'm close to getting the Czech version since no domestic company seems to be picking up the slack. (Meanwhile Czech out other Svankmajer titles, particularly his shorts, for much more animation, also look for the Jiri Barta DVD)

Good luck!

There's a Svankmajer retrospective on the North American cinematheque circuit this year; it appears to be supported by the Czech Center New York. If you have a cinematheque-type venue in Cincinnati, I would suggest you have them contact the Czech Center New York or the nearest Czech consulate. Links:

Amazon UK is carrying the English version of the film. I saw no information on if the film was dubbed or subtitled, but I assume it will have English subs. You will need an all-region DVD player if you're in the States. Just ordered it. Here's the link:

EDIT: It just arrived. I can confirm the film is in Czech with English subtitles, and additional subs in French, German, Spanish, and Italian. Includes three beind the scenes documentaries. Great DVD!
