Fantastic documentary... but what book is the quote from?

I love this documentary. I ordered it on dvd as soon as I found out it existed (Thursday), but I couldn't wait to see it so I watched it on youtube on Friday and again just now, and the DVD isn't even here yet (very excited for the DVD extras of course).

Anyway, right near the end of the film, the theatre writer who I forgot the name of... he's reading from a book. Anyone know what the book is? Or anyone got any other good reccomendations for John Cazale biographies? I would love to read an in-depth book written about him.

More than anything though, I'd love to see him portrayed in a film. I mean, can you imagine a biopic of Al Pacino or alternatively Meryl Streep? John Cazale would be a key character. I would love that.

The writer (most famous as a playwright) was Israel Horovitz. I've just done a fairly extensive search and can't find what it was he was reading from.

(I just saw this documentary for the first time tonight and now want to buy it on DVD...I'm thinking that someone with the DVD might come along and answer your question. Did Horovitz specify what he was reading from? I did check to see if he has a published autobiography, but that doesn't seem to be the case. [He and Cazale were childhood friends.])

Horovitz was reading from "A Eulogy: John Cazale (1936-1978)" that he had written. It was published in the Village Voice on 3/27/1978. I found it quoted on Cazale's TCM page. I can't, however, find it in the VV archive nor do I know what book he was reading it from. I wish I did. It made me cry.

Thanks for that information, jervistetch. Indeed it was a very moving tribute.

(Possibly it was in book form because Horovitz [or someone in his life, perhaps] had had it privately bound.)

Hi, if you're still looking for the whole eulogy, I found it here. Really gorgeous:

UPDATE: If the link doesn't work, try typing "John Cazale Eulogy (1936-1978)" into Google. The news.google.com page should come up in the search results.
