Hello. I managed to watch a copy of this film last night but unfortunately it had Danish Subtitles and I am English. Although I managed to sit through the whole thing, I was wondering can anybody tell me what the characters were talking about and if I missed anything important.
For example, did it explain why he was doing what he was doing? Were the boy and girl talking of anything important in the cafe? What was going on in the whole pretend hospital scene and what did she say to him at the end?
It was their first date in the cafe mostly just get to know you stuff, the fake hospital scene the killer told them he would get them better then turn himself in to the police, most of the dialogue between the boy and the girl was about why the killer was treating them so well. And the end she tells him she had met his "Fat Wh*re Mother" and she smelled like "a skunk" and that he had inherited it and that only someone that loved him would tell him he stunk and because no one had ever told him no one had ever loved him, hence the deodorant in the last scene. Hope this helps.
Films feature kids growing up in the dust bowl, Movies feature kids in a cereal bowl.
He never explainded why he did, what he did. But it was a game to him, he promised them that he would free them if they could sexually excite him, by proving their will to survive.
The scene in the cafe; the guy says that he likes her, and that he wants to be with her, but she thinks it's too soon and that they should get to know each other better. Then at the scene in the tunnel, before they get attacked, she asks the guy (as a joke) if he would die for her, he doesn't know what to say but says that he will do his part if it should ever come to that.
When the killer first starts torturing the guy, by stabbing him inside the mouth and the gut, he asks the girl if she would die for the guy and she shakes her head. She won't.
Cut to the scene where they are lying on the table (before he saws off their limbs), the killer asks the guy if he would really die for her. And he says yes, so he starts hammering some nails into his testicles. The girl screams to stop and as the killer moves to torture the girl (he said earlier, that if they ever spoke without being asked , he would punish them - hence the cutting off her nipples) - the guy gets the killers attention to proceed with the torture on him. If he gives up and doesn't want to die for her, he will kill her in front of the guy and then kill him. So ... The killer ultimately ends up cutting off the guys penis .. to me that was a metaphor of dying for the girl. He gave up his manhood.
That really turned the killer on and he "releases the couple" and takes care of them. He promises that he will turn himself in when they are strong enough to leave the place. He also promises them millions of Yen and everything else he owns. The couple starts feeling secure and believe they will be set free. They talk about about the future. She asks him , if he wants to be with her , when they get out. She wants to stay with him forever. They talk a bit about things, and she mentions that there's an odd thing about the killer, he smells really bad.
- The last thing the killer tells them, before he leaves them is that they should take their medicine to feel better. Of course the medicine is some kind of a drug and the couple are back in the killing room. The killer tells them that he was so excited by their will to live, that he needed more. What they had done just wasn't enough and he couldn't set them free without being turned on one last time.
He sets up a new game for the guy, tells him what he has to do and what he will do to him. He will take out his entrails and tie them to the hook, the entrails will stretch enough to reach the scissors on the floor. When he gets to the scissor he has to cut his entrails off and free the girl. He will die and she will live. He makes the final promise that if the guy suceeds, he will set her free. As you saw the guy didn't make it . It seems to me that the girl also gave up, she knew she was going to die and therefor decided to murder the killer in a verbal manner. She pissed him off, by saying that she once met a prostitue, who smelled so bad - like a skunk - and that clearly had to be his mother, because he smells exactly like her. She concluded that he must have inherited his mother's loss of smell, since he couldn't smell it himself. She just completely degrades him and his mother and you can clearly see how that affects him. When she's done and smiling , it's enough for him and he kills her.
I didnt get the whole smell thing...i assumed that was what she was referring to in the "hospital" when she said and "that other thing, he smells like he uses soap" or something to that effect. Do you think he really did stink?
Yes, I do, because she said the guy (the psycho) had 'armpit odour' in Japanese (just before she gets killed). He seems to have a bath/shower everyday (therefore the soap smell), but he cannot really get rid of the particular odour... is what they were talking about in the fake hospital room.
thats what i thought, thanks but we were watching it on a website that kept buffering the video...so it skipped some dialogue and we just wanted to get it over with and not try to rewind!
When the young man is struggling to cut free the girl, it appeared to me that they both realized the futility of escape when they see the rope binding her arm has a piece of metal or wire intertwined in it to prevented him from cutting her loose with the scissors.
