I don't have an answer to your question, but I am glad you asked it; maybe somebody can offer an explanation. I thought that was rather cool, if mysterious, and who knows, maybe slightly sinister. I tried "looking overhead" of the Brandenberg Forest with Google Maps, but gave up after a while.
