Ewan McGregor still in Obi-Wan mode.....

... A good actor with plenty of decent films in his back catalogue, but he's really not very good at delivering one-liners in these CGI-heavy action films, is he?

"I win. I always win. Is there no one on this planet to even challenge me?"

reply

I generally like him as an actor and still find it hard to believe that his biggest mistake in acting was having anything to do with the Prequels. He was painful to watch in them.

reply

I agree, he's unbelievably stiff and wooden. It's the Contemporary George Lucas School of Acting (tm)!

reply

Considering the fact that he was acting in green screen with Lucas as a director, I thought he came out remarkably well. Granted, Lucas is never gonna get the most out of any actor, but I always thought MacGregor as Obi-Wan was one of the main highlights of the prequels. He put a lot of warmth in humor into a pretty awkward set of scripts.

"He is not Judge Judy and executioner!"

reply

He gave the performance in the prequels IMO. he was the saving grace of those crappy movies.

reply

I agree, he was the best actor of the whole series.

reply

Agreed. He is the only one that gave the prequels any dignity at all. Not even Natalie Portman knew what to do with that bad dialogue. Ewan made the best of it. He is a terrific actor.

what we have here is...failure to communicate!

reply

Didn't Lucas direct Star Wars? He got plenty of fine performances in that. Granted, Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing could have directed themselves, but I thought the others were quite good too.

I didn't hate McGregor in the prequels, and most of the other performances in them were distractingly bad (like Natalie Portman and whats-his-name who played Anakin).

reply

According to the special features, Lucas has one direction: "Faster and more intense." The good performances were simply because the actors were so good, they didn't need much direction. Mark and Carrie seem fairly stilted at times in the original. They got a little better in the sequels when they get real direction.

I disagree wholeheartedly , He was the best thing in the movie.

reply

I heard he's going to pull out a light saber to slay the giants.

reply

Is it bad that i liked him the most outta all the other A lists guys like Sam Jackson, Portman, and McDirmind?? He had some bad dialogue, but i still like the guy.

I believe in Christopher Nolan.

reply

I believe I heard one of the other nights say he came from a kingdom far, far away.

I liked his part the most. When Jack killed the cook giant and he says, 'well done Jack, well done!,' I kept laughing. The expression on his face, haha.
Also when he was rolled up in dough he tells Jack, 'I had this this...'

In this movie, he looked like David Bowie..........

"Son-of-a-bitch must pay!!"

reply

I just think it is funny that in this movie he says something Obiwan says in all the prequels

reply

"I have a really bad feeling about this!"

Obi-Wan is still my favorite thing about the prequels. Actually, aside from the CG, he's about the only good thing about those prequels.

I liked him in this, too, but I find him so like-able I could see him in just about anything and enjoy him.

reply

HAHAHA yep that's the line

reply

I have an awfully bad feeling about this

reply

Yeah, this line stood out so much:) They put quite a few easter eggs in this movie.

reply

It's his appalling english accent and Toni & Guy haircut that really put me off. Also Jacks hooded jack was a bit trendy for a old fairytale...

It's a simple question Doctor, would you eat the Moon if it were made of ribs?

reply

Yeah, in the prequels i always felt like Ewan was one of the few things Lucas got right. He did Alec Guiness proud with his take on Obi-Wan.

I thought Liam Neeson was decent in the first one, as well. And Ian MacDermid
was aces.

In Jack, however, this just seemed like a paycheque.

"Gallifrey Stands!"

reply

Hayden Christensen & Natalie Portman were so gawd-awful in the prequels that Ewan McGregor was the one saving grace in sitting through them!
