Bombed because of Eleanor Tomlinson

If the lead had been Kristen Stewart, the movie would have grossed at least 60-70 million more.Still a great movie, the best adventure of the year.

Oomph! Thanks for making me throw up into my mouth...

Terrible things Lawrence. You've done terrible things.

reply

Kristen Stewart, the plain dame of Hollywood. Yes that would have improved things. Still haven't forgot her in Snow White, as the most beautiful woman of all. What a laugh.

I have never heard of Eleanor Tomlinson before tonight, but thought she was very pretty & a good actress to boot.

That's right! Blame just about the one and only female in the cast (who IMO was fine in the role). Even if you were correct (and clearly I don't think you are), with another ($60 or 70 million) it would have still bombed. The budget, like the giants was TOO LARGE and the movie didn't quite know in which direction it wanted to go.

reply

Thanks for the constructive reply, but I still disagree.Yes,Tomlinson was fine, but she is a poor box office draw;that's the fact my opinion is based upon.Stewart is the opposite, all of her adventure-fantasy movies were huge financial successes, and with another 60-70mil it would have broken even.

reply

...but she is a poor box office draw;that's the fact...
How do you know this for a fact?
...with another 60-70mil it would have broken even...
No even if it had got that extra, it wouldn't have been enough to break even.

reply

I do know because nobody wanted to buy a ticket to watch her.
WarnerB lost approximately 120mil on this film;money from dvds/rentals/rights almost halved the deficit,so additional 60-70mil at the box office would have been enough to break even.

reply

It lost 120 to 140 million per the studio. Stewart is not a draw anymore.

reply

Or it would've made little difference at all, stop thinking with your junk.

reply

No,my dear Lou 500,I wasn't thinking with my junk,I was thinking with my brain using logic and some undeniable facts. To make a long story short, just compare Stewart's movies to the ones of Tomlinson in terms of revenue to get the idea of what I'm talking about.See,it would've made a big difference.

I love this...speculation dressed up as facts. LOL! Dream on.

reply

By your logic, no-one who is relatively unknown to the audience should be given a chance... How boring that would make movies.

I don't think many people who are the target audience for this film would have been put off by who the love interest was, to be honest - and she did fine with the part. Fresh faces need to be given a chance. We should be applauding the producers for casting her, even if it might have been a safer bet with a bigger name. As a viewer, better movies take precedence over box-office.

reply

The fact that there was only one female was the problem. She didn't have a mother, sisters, cousins, friends that were female? Ridiculous. Maybe if someone like Rachel Weitz was cast as her mother at the very least...

I think he was being sarcastic

reply

No. Stewart is no longer a draw (see her last two movie bombs)

reply

The movie is gay enough. We don’t need boy-stand-in Kristen Stewart for all the closeted out there. I mean, Tucci’s Character what is gayer than a picnic basket.

reply

Interesting theory.
