If marriage is so important then where is Kim's father?

OK, I'm probably going to look like a jerk if her dad died but hopefully he wasn't (dead). But where was he in this movie? All we see is her mom trying to (apparently) live thru her.

I'm rather disappointed that at the end she gave up being a vent and just went and got married to please her mom.

BTW, Dan should have gone to the gym on that ship more often and maybe he'd have stayed in better shape and maybe his wife would have wanted to see him come home.
