Are these interns going to take over Scrubs?

It seems like these new interns (Sunny, Denise, Katie, Howie, and Derek) are really being built up, much better than past interns like Ronnie, Josephine, Boon, and Debbie (Keith seems to have disappeared too).

Do you think those five will be able to replace J.D., Turk, Elliot, and Karla? Can they hold the show on their one if there were ever to be a season nine?

Myself, I'm not too sure. I like the new interns, love it that Ed is no longer in the picture, but they don't seem the type to be main characters...yet...

Any other thoughts?

Actually, the reason why Braff, as well as most of the other main actors, don't appear as often as they used to is because of cost-cutting measures. I guess part of the deal with Scrubs being handed over to ABC was to make the show cheaper to produce, so the main actors are going to have fewer screen time this season.

I think I read it on Wikipedia or something.

im a longtime fan of scrubs and personally i like what they are doing, cuz these stereotypes tend to be in the workplace, you know, the person with an ego, the crybaby, the weirdo, etc. i sure hope they go til at least season 10. seems to me like they are running out of stories for the old cast, so i hope this season focuses on closing the remaining arcs and little character developments. the new interns are more interesting to watch now. Howie is like Doug + Todd, Katie is like Elliot, to me i think Sunny is J.D., Denise is the new Perry. i mean it all fits and is fun to see. it fits them that on a new network they will start over again, showcasing the new interns. i'm not a fan of medical shows, but this one grew on me.

Heard John C McGinley on NHL Live and he said they shot the finale and as far as he knows the show is over. Go look for the interview on NHL.COM for the 04/27/2009 show, he says so in the middle of all the hockey talk.

I'm not a huge fan of the new interns, just Denise (aka Joe, lol) cuz she's hilarious. I think that they should just end the show. It went on for 8 AWESOME seasons, they should just go out while they're on top. Besides, the show won't be the same without half the cast being there.
Also, I think the finale of season 8 was perfect! So, as much as I'm going to miss the show, they should definately call it quits now.

If they are going to continue, i think they should just spin it off, and do it with the new interns, give it a real shot, rather then just letting half the cast leave and pretending its the same show.

It's "Saved by the Bell: The New Class" all over again!

Scrubs on NBC = SBTB
Scrubs on ABC = SBTB: The College Years
Scrubs: Interns = SBTB: The New Class

I really love Scrubs, and love catching the reruns. I'm just not that impressed with the ABC episodes. Oh well....

lol thats perfect

kif, i have made it with a woman...inform the men

Yeah... but SBTB: The New Class had more seasons than both the other SBTBs.

I don't think any of them are strong or appealing enough characters to be able to carry the whole show on their shoulders. I find Denise and Derek interesting enough for me to want to delve into their personal lives more so than the others, but the rest of them I really couldn't care less about.

I'd say part of the problem revolves around how these interns have been portrayed. Whereas the main cast, in the intern phase of the show, was shown to be a group of budding adults who were (slowly) growing into their maturity and responsibilities, the current set of interns have been portrayed more as kids.

I'm guessing this was done to contrast them with J.D., Elliot, et al. You might also notice that the actors cast in the new intern roles are all shorter than the original cast members. Essentially, these interns never had to shape up the way J.D., Elliot, and Turk did, because those three are way more forgiving and nurturing than Cox and Kelso.

So, unless they plan to introduce some other characters who are really as complicated, interesting, and compelling as the original characters, I don't think a new group of interns can carry the show.

I think it will all depend on the writing. I remember when Scrubs was originally being promoted, I looked at the commercials and thought, "Hi-jinks in a hospital starring Murray from Clueless and Replacement Becky from Roseanne?" I was skeptical to say the least. I am so glad I watched it anyway. Sure, this could end up as an ill-conceived sequel (like After M*A*S*H, Saved By the Bell: The College Years, etc.), but I'll at least give it a chance.
