Started off darkly uplifting changed to dark and sad - What happened?

Saw the pilot through to Season 4 Episode 1.
A bit jarring at first with the change of the actors from the pilot,
but I think the new actors fit the way the story went.

What happened to the premise of the show?
Supernatural beings trying to fit in.
It becomes a dark thriller after Mitchell's murder rampage.
Loved the show though.
Really sad and it stays with you.

Great actors, onscreen chemistry, and dialogue.
One of the best horror series in recent years.
Wish it hadn't ended that way.
Don't have a desire to finish watching the rest of season 4.

Don't stop watching!

Season four is one of the best, tying with season three. (Season five was all right.) Admittedly the first episode was quite dark, with George sitting in Eve's room all sad. I probably would've quit the show if it had kept on like that, but it didn't.
Okay, to be honest, the overall sense of impeding doom will last throughout the rest of the show. Fortunately, this is so cleverly mixed up with wit and interesting guest characters that you'll often forget how near they are to the end of the world as they know it. It's strangely comforting really.

Anyway, my advice: watch a few episodes more, then decide for yourself. Same goes for season five.

season 2 and 3 were far too dark and characters changed too much

but season 4 and 5 were quality.
