Cast changes

Is there any background information or drama about the cast changes? I know this show was unnaturally long compared to other British shows, so that might just be it. The change that really strikes me is between Series 3 and 4. Mitchell dies in the finale, George dies in the premiere (or episode 2?), and Nina dies inbetween. It seemed like an awkward transition, and I was specifically wondering why Annie's death was off camera.

1. Mitchell died because Aidan was cast in the Hobbit.
2. George died because Russell didn't want to continue on the show after Aidan left.
3. As for Nina (I'm assuming you meant her when you said Annie), I think her death was just to set up George's exit. But I'm not 100% positive about that.

That makes sense I guess. I'm just conditioned to think that when a death happens off camera there is some juicy story behind the scenes.

They were going to have George in the first two episodes and Nina's death in the first one, but Russell Tovey wasn't available for two episodes, just one, so they compressed George's story to one episode and eliminated any appearance of Nina. Sinead Keenan (Nina) was disappointed that she'd been written out, but last I knew, was still on good terms with Tovey.

What we see and what we seem are but a dream. A dream within a dream.

the show did well with the new characters

but the same they ended the regular characters seems forced and disappointing.

at one point they hated killing but then seemed to do it with ease. Poor character development.
