Making up for lost grounds...

Felix Chong & Alan Mak more than make up for their post-INFERNAL AFFAIRS disappointments. OVERHEARD is a much more layered story than their previous work, and showing touches of inspiration taken from John Woo, Chan Woon-Park films, and I think it would be difficult for either of them to deny influence from Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's masterpiece THE LIVES OF OTHERS.

The first act is probably the best of the set of 3, and in my opinion they almost hit a homerun had it not been some of the flaws in the last act.... won't spill the beans, but I must say that to imagine fear from the sight of the frigtened is often more compelling than having to hammer the idea home with a lame scream, and this film serves as a great example of at least that.

I loved the first act but then I got really really confused and then more confused. Everything just went too fast.

Yeah I see what you mean, now and then I had to pause and think about what was going on but it had a massive range of emotions and ideas running through it. At times it was almost overwhelming but in the end I really enjoyed it all.

The music and cinematography were excellent. All the acting was quite superb (well it would be with Lau Ching Wan, Louis Koo and Daniel Wu as the leads) but I was surprised at how good Michael Wong was in it.

Yeah. I really liked it.
