waitress arguing w/customer about her tip

I missed the ending of last night's Rehab. What ended up happening with the waitress fighting with the English men about her tip? She was saying to him "It's not enough!" I didn't think people could argue with customers like that. In a service industry, it's a chance you take that people don't tip you what you expect them to.

She was fired. She was told it was bad to EVER make a customer feel uncomfortable and that a tip is a priveledge. I gotta agree--she was out of line, even if it was a small tip.

Yes (in a scene that I don't believe was set up)she deserved to be sent down the road. The smaller tip ($200) should not have been a suprise since there is no or little tipping in Britain. There the employees are paid enough in salary so as to not require heavy tipping to pay for food, rent and in Ashley's case boob jobs.

She harrassed the customers first of all and thats a big no no if Matt had seen anything during her day she wouldn't have even made it to the end of her shift. She deserved to be fired for her rudeness to the customer. I feel as though that even though she was right, she should have received a larger time, some people just don't tip and she should know that she'd get screwed a time or two working there. But in her defense, is British people have a reputation as not tipping I personally would have just dealt with it and put on a happy face, as least you'd be able to come back to work the next time.

She has some nerve discussing the tip with the customer. I feel bad for people who don't get tipped properly but it is another thing to confront the customer. What she has shown is a total lack of class.

Before I say this let me preface my opinion by saying that I've never been a waiter or a bartender or any other job that relied on tips for my income and as such I'm approaching this from the standpoint of a customer. Once she heard the British accents coming from the guys she went into panic mode and contstantly nagged at them for a tip. In fact the first thing she said to them was "gratuity isn't included in your tab." And throughout the episode she kept on the same line over and over again. This guy paid $3,000 for his cabana and she's treating him like crap because of a stereotype that he wasn't going to tip her. If that had been me, I've flown 5,000 miles; dealt with immigration and customs; paid $3,000 and now I'm being treated like a chump all day because of my accent?!? She deserved to be fired. Now she can sling hashbrows and coffee at waffle house. Mabey she'll appreciate her customers more there.

What's shocking is that she's a teacher. A kindergarten teacher. Who, oddly enough, exhibits kindergartener-type behavior....

"First you ask if you can be red, knowing that I'm always red."

Some people will tip big. Others might just leave a "little" tip. Some people might not even leave a tip. Either way, chance tips are the name of the game, and if you don't like it, then GET ANOTHER JOB

I've been a bartender for 15 years and complaining about the amount of your tip is unacceptable. Every bartender is going to get screwed with a small tip from time to time regardless of the quality of service that they provide it is just one of the pitfalls of the job. Conversally bartenders are also going to get over-tipped sometimes, I myself have been tipped $80 for a $3 drink before and no bartender is going to tell the customer that they have been tipped to much.

yeah, the waitresses here seem OBSESSED with tips. It makes you very uncomfortable. It's pretty clear they are not really into the job, but are there only for the money.

It's almost a stripper mentality. They put on the show and pretend like they are having a good time, let these jerks joke around with them and take pictures, but inside they are seething and angry.

Any good service person typically enjoys some aspect of their job, whether it's interacting with people, or providing people with an excellent experience or just being around an atmosphere they find enjoyable. These girls don't seem to have any joy in any aspect of their jobs...it's just about the money for them. They tolerate the customers with the dollar sign as the goal. Just like strippers.

I can't expect others to share my virtues, it's good enough for me if they share my vices.

let me say, being a server myself, that she had no right saying anything about the amount of her tip, that's the nature of the job. Sometimes you get a great tip and sometimes you don't, but as to suzeclark, it is all about the tip. not to sound greedy but that's why i'm there. yes i enjoy most of the job but i wouldnt do it for free. if your boss could randomly change your hourly pay or salary you would do everything to please him/her so they would give you the most pay, right? just as others are concered about raises and promotions. i don't think they are wrong with being concerned or obsessed with their tips, as long as the customer doesn't know it.:-)
