I this based on E.R. Frank's book "America" the summary sounds the same, though in the book he's fifteen and I'm not sure if the therapist is female in the book... Though I don't think it would matter if it was a female. Read it a long time ago, so I don't know...

Yes. It is. I read the book yesterday and today and my mom brought up that she had seen trailers for it on the TV and I looked it up on here and jumped up and down in joy when I found out it was being turned into a movie.
