This is good!!

And i'm glad to see the message board active... someone to talk about it with! It's cute and romantic and I had no idea about Jewish religion. I'm learning a lot. Love it!!

I don't know too much about Judaism either, so don't know how a member of her faith would feel about it, but I agree that it was a good movie.

It suggests there are various ways to be religious -- the younger brother was spiritual in his own way, and did his brother proud. And, it is nice that we are led to believe the wife didn't suddenly lose her religion, even if she took a somewhat less strict view of it. No all or nothing.

Religion is a touchy topic but shows like Seventh Heaven suggest it can be discussed and done in a way even those with different beliefs would enjoy the story being told. Helps to have good writing and actors!

While I do know some things about Hasidic Judaism, I thought it was interesting to see it in a movie setting. I didn't find it to be a very believable movie but I thought it was very cute nonetheless! Glad I didn't see this before spending time with my friend in that area of Brooklyn for a week...I may have thought the people there would be more lax!

A price above rubies staring Rene Zellweger would be a movie that is set in the Diamond District in New York that is mostly a Hasidic community. The Hasidic Movement originated in Eastern Europe, mostly Ukrainian or Polish in heritage.

This is a nice, harmelss, sweet, well-meaning movie. I'm enjoying it very much, surprisingly. I only watched it because of Lauren Ambrose (know her from Six Feet Under) and Adam Kaufman (know him from Without A Trace). I went in with few expectations, and like it a lot.

this was such an adorable movie. I loved it I want the DVD. I also learned so much about the Jewish faith that I never knew. I didn't know that the custom of Levirate marriage was still practiced today. Such a beautiful story I'm glad it was told.

Yes, a cute movie. Predictably happy ending, but I'm not complaining. I'd be interested to know what Jewish viewers thought of it, whether it was accurate or over the top?

I almost didn't watch this movie. The commercials didn't look that good. Knowing it was a Hallmark movie I had to check it out. I'm so glad I watched it! What a wonderful movie. I've already called my local Hallmark store and ordered the DVD. lol

btw...The movie was so good I finally registered with IMDB. After years of lurking I had to comment on this movie. lol

As a Jew I enjoyed the movie, however, Levirate Marriages are not common at all. I am not Orthodox, rather Reform which is the same movement as the woman Rabbi's synagogue was in the film. Typically films do not portray Shabbat (Sabbath) services at a Shul (synagogue), rather services in the home which was also portrayed. If you are wondering what the members were stating after the service, it was, Shabbat Shalom, or wishing peace for the Sabbath.

I enjoyed the movie even though I don't know much about Jewish customs, but I thought they made it pretty clear that Levirate Marriages are not common. Even the rabbi in Washington DC says she didn't know they were still done. I got the impression that this is something that probably wouldn't happen in real life, but could.

I really liked it also. I know a little about the orthodox community, but don't know how accurate it was because I have never heard of the marrying your brother in law and the process that would follow. The other symbols of Judaism were right on, like the explanation of leaving stones on the headstone and the kosher stuff. What I really liked about it was that Leah's journey wasn't predictable. She kept her Jewish identity and wasn't ostracized for it. I thought there would be an incident when Leah went to the event, but there wasn't. Usually in these movies, the woman either totally abandons her faith (Price Above Rubies) or gets ostracized for being different. She also recognized that she was in love with him early on and then made no apologies. It wasn't overly dramatic either. One of the better tv movies I've seen in a long time.

I didn't care for this movie. I thought it was very boring. I watched for about the first hour and than turned it off.

Plus, there was absolutely no chemistry between the two leads. Very flat and why would this guy think his girlfriend would accept this major life changing decision?

And considering how fantastic Lauren Ambrose was in Six Feet Under, this was a big step down for her.

Plus the preview, revealed the entire movie. I hate when the preview basically shows the entire movie.
