Great, Completely Unexpected Scares!

I just saw this film in a theater. Although the actual story (unfortunately) didn't have me caring much (I found it lacking any concrete storyline), one thing that COMPLETELY stood out were the (VERY few, but) EXCELLENT scares! Simply the way they were very quickly induced in the most UNEXPECTED settings and scenes was just...perfect!

I appreciated the way the scares were thrown in your face and then taken right out again so quickly, you barely had any time to regsiter what you just saw. They say that the less you see, the scarier it is. This is completely true, and The Eclipse used this logic to it's definite advantage.

Without giving any spoilers away, I found the very first scare (car) to be THEE most effective--just the way the gentle scene and music in the backround transcended into this grotesque image and music so suddenly--WOW.

I'm a big horror film buff and have pretty much seen all there is to see with this stuff--but I think The Eclipse held some of the spookiest and well executed scares I've ever seen to date.

Haha. So funny. I actually gasped, and I rarely do that during "scary" scenes. The music definitely helped. It went from depressing to utterly disturbing in an iffy.

reply

I agree, those where some very unexpected and well done scares!

I watch a ton of horror movies and that closet scene made me jump out of my couch.

reply

The car and the closet scenes were very effective. Made me jump too.
DidnĀ“t see it coming at all!

reply

Same!! I'm a huge horror fan and have seen it all and am never really scared and I must say during that car scene my heart started pounding harder and faster at the (perfectly done and hauntingly horrifying) crescendo of the Latin voices and u suddenly (yet almost in a slow "crescendo" as well) realize the ghoulish apparition next to him! I actually even shut my eyes really tight when that happened bc it was almost 3am and dark and I was alone and it honestly startled and spooked me THAT much! I have never felt the need to seriously shut out/close my eyes to a horror scene ever before until that moment. Well done and very unexpected scares in this movie, bravo!!

I liked how the movie build up a little bit of tension, then lets you relax, then BAM, it throws a scare at you. I said, "Holy *beep* a few times during this movie. Well done on the scares.

reply

*beep* the car scene scared the absolute sh*t out of me!!!

agreed. the **spoiler** closet scene had my body so tense I'm embarrassed to say I'm actually sore from it today.
