Nice cast listing And somehow I like the idea of Emma Watson as the director of the movie.

And I think the rating of the movie is perfect. The content in the anime of Maria Holic isn't as bad as I thought it would be; I expected the anime to be explicit but it wasn't really. So the PG-13 rating is good

reply

thx

When I said it should be rated PG-13 for, among other things, brief strong language, did you notice in the first chapter of the manga that Mariya actually said "bitch"? (That came from the fan-translated manga on mangafox.com if you're interested, during the scene where Kanako discovers that Mariya is actually a boy)

>:(
"Are you trying to say "capisce"? Because it hurts my ears the way you say it."

reply

Just now I looked up the first chapter of the manga, and I saw that Mariya indeed said the word 'bitch'. He also says it in the anime, and he says the f-word once in one episode. I was surprised when I heard it But one f-bomb wouldn't hurt the PG-13 rating, right? Because there are some movies with that rating that had an f-word.

He also says it in the anime...

Does he say "bitch" at the same time he says it in the manga?

...and he says the f-word once in one episode.

Which one?

But one f-bomb wouldn't hurt the PG-13 rating, right?

It definitely wouldn't. I've seen plenty of PG-13 films with one to three f-words in them. Hell, I even admit to seeing Gunner Palace, which by far holds the world record for most f-words in a PG-13 film (42 in all, including a couple used in a sexual manner!).

>:(

reply

Does he say "bitch" at the same time he says it in the manga?

I don't remember if he says it at the same time as the manga, but he probably does. I've heard it at least twice in the anime (somewhere before episode 10 I think). The anime seems to follow the manga pretty well (so far as I read it), and it even extends the story from where the manga abruptly stopped.

And the anime episode he said the f-word in is episode 8. Heard it only once in the anime

I even admit to seeing Gunner Palace, which by far holds the world record for most f-words in a PG-13 film (42 in all, including a couple used in a sexual manner!).

That's alot of f-words for a PG-13 movie! I should see that film. What was the MPAA thinking?! lol

reply

To be fair, Gunner Palace was originally rated R based on such language. However, Palm Pictures appealed and successfully got the rating lowered to PG-13 on the grounds that more and more young people are joining the military and need to know what it's like to be involved in the War in Iraq.

I guess it's a good enough reason to have the rating of the movie lowered. Besides, young people nowadays seem to know more about adult language and themes than ever before.

Oh btw I sent you another private message

No kidding. My sister told me that she knows what it's like to be in an R-rated environment, since the kids on her bus swear all the time.

>:(
"Are you trying to say "capisce"? Because it hurts my ears the way you say it."

reply

lol I'm not surprised about kids being exposed to R-rated things anymore. It's become so commonplace now. But it really depends how the kids process the information they take in. They have to learn to deal with the exposure in mature ways.

Believe me, I actually got used to R-rated movies ever since I was 13.

>:(
"Are you trying to say "capisce"? Because it hurts my ears the way you say it."

reply

Wow, you got used to R-rated movies at a young age. I started taking R-rated films seriously at the age of 16. In fact, I'm even a bit late when it comes to watching animes. I only began watching animes in 2005, and I was 20 at the time lol

Oh, and I sent you a PM again

The first anime I ever saw was Pokémon, back in 1999, when I was barely 7.

>:(
"Are you trying to say "capisce"? Because it hurts my ears the way you say it."

reply

lol I knew about Pokemon in the 1990's, I just never really stayed with the anime in those days. It would be on TV but then I would switch the channel to something else.

In general, I always thought of animes as 'weird' cartoons, so I never stuck to any that I've seen on television. And at your age, I remember the anime Captain Tsubasa sometimes appearing on TV, and I always changed the channel to reruns of the GI Joe cartoons. It's so weird that I actually watch animes now, even after not watching them as a kid

I actually branched out in my anime tastes a few years ago, when InuYasha was on Adult Swim.

>:(
"Are you trying to say "capisce"? Because it hurts my ears the way you say it."

reply

I haven't seen InuYasha yet. I heard that it was a good anime, but its episodes stopped abruptly. I hate it when animes just suddenly stop. Eyeshield 21 (an anime that I liked) also stopped too suddenly

And btw, I made a new Youtube video yesterday. I sent you the link to it in a message

"Only Spartan women give birth to real men" - Queen Gorgo in 300

reply

I take it you like the InuYasha manga better than the anime?

>:(
"Are you trying to say "capisce"? Because it hurts my ears the way you say it."

reply

Actually, I haven't read the InuYasha manga or seen the anime yet. I'm just saying in general that I don't like it when any anime series just stop so suddenly. It is very disappointing when that happens, especially when those very animes have so much potential to become epic

"Only Spartan women give birth to real men" - Queen Gorgo in 300

reply

Are you going to read the InuYasha manga anytime soon?

>:(
"Are you trying to say "capisce"? Because it hurts my ears the way you say it."

reply

I will read the manga of InuYasha sometime soon, whenever I am free from work. I hope I like it

btw I wanted to ask you: Are there specific animes that you don't like or that you don't find interesting? Just curious, because I don't want to recommend an anime that you wouldn't like

"Only Spartan women give birth to real men" - Queen Gorgo in 300

reply

I like all anime and manga.

>:(
"Are you trying to say "capisce"? Because it hurts my ears the way you say it."

reply

So you're open to all kinds of anime and manga? I guess that's a good thing, because you get to find out about the many different types of animes & mangas out there, without missing any that may be worth watching/reading.

But I am kinda picky about what animes & mangas I like. For example, I like the 'One Piece' anime & manga, but I wasn't impressed with another anime called 'GetBackers'. I also avoid animes & mangas aimed at girls, except for 'Maria Holic' and 'Otome ha boku ni koi shiteru'. And I tend to like animes & mangas with comedy in them, rather than the serious-toned ones

BTW: I sent you a private message

Do you like Pokémon as well? Because I cast a live adaptation and a sequel on the same thread in the Pokémon board. The thread is titled "Live Action Cast" if you're interested.

>:(
"Are you trying to say "capisce"? Because it hurts my ears the way you say it."

reply

I used to be interested in Pokemon as a kid because my brother collected the Pokemon cards, but now I lost interest because I got older

But it's cool that you made a live adaptation casting for it, because you seem good at casting for movies based on animes. I personally find it difficult to think of adapting animes into movies because they are so different from each other

btw (I gotta stop repeating myself here lol) I sent you another PM!

I saw all your posts there and applaud your efforts and understand your choices for who should be who in the cast and crew. Could you list the albums you have on vinyl, cassette, and CD in your next PM so we could work out soundtracks for Otoboku, Maria Holic, Ouran High School Host Club, Strawberry Panic, Dokuro-chan, and High School Girls?

>:(
"Are you trying to say "capisce"? Because it hurts my ears the way you say it."

reply

Thanks! I sent you the PM about the music albums

btw have you read a manga called 'Pretty Face'? Because that manga also features a guy crossdressing as a girl like in Maria Holic, except it has a more upbeat humor (rather than the dark humor in Maria Holic) and the art style somehow reminds me of that in Otoboku. Here is the link to the Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pretty_Face

It's a bit old now, but that was the first manga I read that featured a trap (a guy who dresses and looks like a girl). It's pretty funny

I read both the PM and the replies. I also sent you a PM listing my own music collection. Besides those listed, I also have other vinyls, cassettes, and CDs, including cassettes of "Off the Wall" and "Dangerous" by Michael Jackson, "In Too Much Too Soon" by the New York Dolls, and the Batman Forever soundtrack as well as CDs of "The Doors" by The Doors and "Thriller" by Michael Jackson.

I'll mostly handle the Ouran and High School Girls soundtracks by myself since I want the films to, while looking modern, have an early '80s feel to the music, with an entirely synthesized score (for Ouran at least) and a '70s and '80s soundtrack. However, for Otoboku, Maria Holic, Strawberry Panic, and Dokuro-chan soundtracks, we'll work together. How's that sound?

>:(
"Are you trying to say "capisce"? Because it hurts my ears the way you say it."

reply

I saw your PM showing the music albums you have. I'm impressed at your music collection You seem to really like old-school music especially from the 1980's and 1970's. I myself like old songs more than new ones, but mostly from the 80's to the early 90's (although there are some songs from the 70's that I like ).

Making an 80's-ish soundtrack for Ouran High School Host Club is a good idea, because the anime itself could fit easily with the themes of the 1980's. High School Girls has more of a 90's feel to me, but I'm sure you can rework it and somehow make it fit in the 80's with the songs you will choose

for Otoboku, Maria Holic, Strawberry Panic, and Dokuro-chan soundtracks, we'll work together. How's that sound?

Sounds great, I will help you with the soundtrack listing as much as I can. But I hope you can bear with my time conflicts because I am very busy these days with work. I'm sorry that I can't post to you as much as in the beginning when we first talked

We'll start with the Otoboku soundtrack, since that's the forum where we first met. By the time you read this, I'll have already thrown in the songs I want in the soundtrack. Once there, you can throw in your choices for the soundtrack, and we can work together to combine our choices into one soundtrack.

I saw your picks for the soundtrack. Now after we combine our two versions of the Otoboku soundtrack, we can put down our picks for the Maria Holic soundtrack. As usual, I'll be laying down my picks first.

>:(
"Are you trying to say "capisce"? Because it hurts my ears the way you say it."

reply

Here's my picks for the soundtrack (once you put yours down, we can combine our choices by picking the best of our selections and mixing them into the soundtrack).

1. "Holiday" by Green Day
2. "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" by U2
3. "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple
4. "Light My Fire" by The Doors
5. "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns N Roses
6. "Louie, Louie" by The Kingsmen
7. "Back in Black" by AC/DC
8. "The Hunter" cover by Blue Cheer
9. "Summertime Blues (Woodstock recording)" by The Who
10. "Stone Cold Crazy" cover by Metallica

Now it's your turn to lay down your picks for the soundtrack.

>:(
"Are you trying to say "capisce"? Because it hurts my ears the way you say it."

reply

My choices for the soundtrack:

1. "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)" by Aerosmith

2. "Stupid Girl" by Garbage

3. "Love Me or Hate Me" by Lady Sovereign

4. "Action" by Def Leppard

5. "A Girl Like You" by Edwyn Collins

6. "Androgyny" by Garbage

7. "Fever" by Kylie Minogue

8. "I Kissed a Girl" by Kate Perry

9. "Stop and Panic" by Cirrus

10. "Get Over It" by OK Go

Cool! Now let's condense our two soundtracks into our own version of the soundtrack. I think the three songs I'd call "must-haves" in what we'll call "the definitive Maria Holic soundtrack" are "Louie, Louie" by The Kingsmen, "The Hunter" cover by Blue Cheer, and "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" by Aerosmith. What do you think should be included in the combination?

>:(
"Are you trying to say "capisce"? Because it hurts my ears the way you say it."

reply

I think these songs should be included in the soundtracks, along with the must-haves you mentioned:

"Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns N Roses

"Light My Fire" by The Doors

"Stupid Girl" by Garbage [To me, the lyrics in this song seems to describe Kanako in a funny way ]

"Androgyny" by Garbage

"Holiday" by Green Day

"Only Spartan women give birth to real men" - Queen Gorgo in 300

reply

So far, only 8 of the minimum 10 tracks have been selected:

"Louie, Louie" by The Kingsmen
"The Hunter" cover by Blue Cheer
"Dude (Looks Like A Lady)" by Aerosmith
"Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns N Roses
"Light My Fire" by The Doors
"Stupid Girl" by Garbage
"Androgyny" by Garbage
"Holiday" by Green Day

This isn't an EP, ShadySovereign! We need at least two more tracks to make a complete soundtrack album! (I'm going to make this easy: one more song from my list and one more song from yours, how 'bout that?)

>:(
"Are you trying to say "capisce"? Because it hurts my ears the way you say it."

reply

LOL sorry about that, I didn't know the minimum number of songs to make a completed soundtrack album But since you mentioned it, here are my last choices to complete the Maria Holic soundtrack:

"Summertime Blues (Woodstock recording)" by The Who

"Stop and Panic" by Cirrus [I was thinking maybe this song could be a background theme for Kanako whenever she gets hives. The song's upbeat dance tone and the repetition of the words 'stop' and 'panic' would somehow match those scenes]

"Only Spartan women give birth to real men" - Queen Gorgo in 300

reply

Good choice! And now, the ten songs confirmed for the definitive Maria Holic soundtrack:

"Louie, Louie" by The Kingsmen
"The Hunter" cover by Blue Cheer
"Dude (Looks Like A Lady)" by Aerosmith
"Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns N Roses
"Light My Fire" by The Doors
"Stupid Girl" by Garbage
"Androgyny" by Garbage
"Holiday" by Green Day
"Summertime Blues (Woodstock recording)" by The Who
"Stop and Panic" by Cirrus

All that's left is to arrange the songs into a specific order, and we have our soundtrack!

>:(
"Are you trying to say "capisce"? Because it hurts my ears the way you say it."

reply

This is how I arranged the songs, but tell me if some songs need to be rearranged:

"Holiday" by Green Day

"The Hunter" cover by Blue Cheer

"Light My Fire" by The Doors

"Dude (Looks Like A Lady)" by Aerosmith

"Androgyny" by Garbage

"Stop and Panic" by Cirrus

"Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns N Roses

"Stupid Girl" by Garbage

"Summertime Blues (Woodstock recording)" by The Who

"Louie, Louie" by The Kingsmen

"Only Spartan women give birth to real men" - Queen Gorgo in 300

reply

I think "Stop and Panic" should be nearer to the start since Kanako gets hives for the first time in the film very early on.

>:(
"Are you trying to say "capisce"? Because it hurts my ears the way you say it."

reply

You are right about that song being closer to the beginning of the film. I wasn't thinking too clearly that time when I listed the songs in order But here is the revised list:

"Holiday" by Green Day

"The Hunter" cover by Blue Cheer

"Light My Fire" by The Doors

"Stop and Panic" by Cirrus

"Dude (Looks Like A Lady)" by Aerosmith

"Androgyny" by Garbage

"Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns N Roses

"Stupid Girl" by Garbage

"Summertime Blues (Woodstock recording)" by The Who

"Louie, Louie" by The Kingsmen

"Only Spartan women give birth to real men" - Queen Gorgo in 300

reply

Wow! You really have this down pat! (Though this would be the track listing for the soundtrack and not the order likely to be used in the movie given Stop and Panic's position in the soundtrack, though I like how close you tried to put it.) Here's the definitive Maria Holic track listing:

1. Holiday" by Green Day
2. "The Hunter" cover by Blue Cheer
3. "Light My Fire" by The Doors
4. "Stop and Panic" by Cirrus
5. "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)" by Aerosmith
6. "Androgyny" by Garbage
7. "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns N Roses
8. "Stupid Girl" by Garbage
9. "Summertime Blues (Woodstock recording)" by The Who
10. "Louie, Louie" by The Kingsmen
