What was the significance of the ending?

Just saw the movie and enjoyed it like many other asian gangster movies. However, I felt a little lost at the end. Why did the gangster come back to finish the movie? Was it because he cared to the others and the actor? How come after he finished shooting, he decided to go back and finish killing the guy with glasses? Was it to show that regardless of who he wanted to be in the past, he can't escape being a gangster. Perhaps, it was to show the actor that he is merely an actor and what a real gangster is like. Anyways, I guess the ending is supposed to be symbolic but I would love to hear others' thoughts and opinions.

I think you pretty much got it...at least from my opinion.
He comes back to finish the movie out of respect before he takes care of his final business (killing the guy with glasses). He cared about the girl and was beginning to respect the actor for who he was because the actor began to realize he himself was just an actor.
Once the movie was done, his commitment to it was done. He knew he is and will always be just a gangster no matter how he wanted to switch over. He tried to turn a new leaf by letting the guy with glasses live but we know how that worked out.
In the end, each of the characters tried to be more than what they were but were humbled back to realization that they can only be what they are.

Just my thoughts...

i agree BUT why would he waste his life committing murder in front of many people in broad day light probably getting life in jail just to prove a point to some guy he met a few weeks ago?? that was totally over the top and ridiculous, the rest of the movie is really good.

just like the other crimes he could have killed him at night without witness
