Im still buying bottled water

I live in America, and i don't like the taste of my tap water. I buy bottled water, and I don't feel like I should be guilt tripped about it either. Plain and simple, I prefer the taste of bottled water to tap water, so i'm going to keep buying bottled water. I recycle my bottles, I don't dump them in the ocean. I'm against littering, and i think a new bottle should be designed without whatever harmful chemicals are in it, but until then i'm going to buy bottled water, and I don't think its right that i'm supposed to feel bad about that.

This film isn't asking you to feel bad about buying bottled water; it's just pointing out the negative effects of doing so. You may not personally throw a bottle in the ocean, but that doesn't mean that its chemical components aren't making their way back into the environment. A billion people each saying "It's not my personal responsibility, so I shouldn't feel bad" adds up to a big giant plastic environmental mess. It's good that you make an effort to recycle, but each plastic bottle still has to be manufactured and transported first - a process which in itself is environmentally destructive. Here are three suggestions to consider if you don't like the way your tap water tastes:

1.) Get a water filter.
2.) Have refillable water bottles delivered to your home (or refill at grocery stores).
3.) Support or start a local effort to work with your municipality to improve the quality and flavor of the local tap water. If the water tastes that horrible, then this shouldn't be too hard.

Say you buy just 3 bottles a week for the next 40 years @ $2 a pop. Even if you don't like the taste of your water, buy a filter! It will get rid of the minerals & other stuff that you dislike so much. This isn't a guilt trip, it's just a massive waste of money. I don't particularly care about the bottles in the Ocean, sure it's bad, but I'm not some eco-freak. I just can't believe people blow there money on water. That will cost you over $12,000 that you could stick in savings account. What an absolute waste of money.

not sure where those figures are coming from. A flat with 24 bottles in it costs around 4 dollars. The water in my town tastes like crap, and I've tried a filter, and didnt like that either. Just because its not something you want to spend your money on doesnt mean its a waste. I can spend the money i work hard for anyway i like.

wow this thread is interesting. its nice to see the different point of views of people , i , fortunatly, live in canada , in a suburb, and our tap water is amazing. The only thing i totally disagree with is those poor town that are getting their water taken from right under their feet and sold back to them..thats just morally wrong!

It is is really awful...and it's too bad the townspeople are buying into the propaganda that their tap water is somehow bad. Like you, I 'm lucky to have super-delicious tap water (I live in a suburb of Seattle), and I never buy bottled unless I'm out and about and need refreshment. I also try to have some bottled on hand to offer guests since it is now considered "gauche" to offer tap water. Ugh. Huge bottling/beverage corporations win again!

I should start selling my tap water for extra money. Why not?

I really hope oil prices rise, so proud homo-consumens like you are forced to hit reality hard and leave your ensconced bubble of make-believe.

Waaaaahhhh I don't like the taste of my tap water. Don't make me feel bad because I'm part of a huge problem. Try drinking your tears, filtered of course.

Buying bottled water is your choice, but I just hope you know about the major environmental footprint that is caused from it. I moved away from bottled water a few years ago when I learned that tap water is much more efficient, and that bottled water can just be tapwater anyways. I sucked it up and stopped caring about the taste of water. When I am thirsty, well I appreciate still having access to chea and clean drinking water.

OP is the epitome of the term moron.

"I buy bottled water, and I don't feel like I should be guilt tripped about it either."
-Well you should. Stop being a baby and drink the tap water like an adult.

"I prefer the taste of bottled water to tap water, so i'm going to keep buying bottled water"
-So if a someone prefers styrofoam they should use that for everything? You're an idiot. People in 3rd world countries would KILL for your 'bad tasting water' by the way, grow up.

"I recycle my bottles, I don't dump them in the ocean."
-They still end up there. You shouldn't feel guilt free, so don't. Also what about the pollution BEFORE it gets to you? Plastic manufacturing plants, oil for transportation, etc. All of that is just OK? Please learn to think bigger than yourself.

"i think a new bottle should be designed without whatever harmful chemicals are in it"
-There is: stainless steel. Keep it clean and it won't mess you up.

"but until then i'm going to buy bottled water, and I don't think its right that i'm supposed to feel bad about that. "
-It is, get over it. You're opinions on yourself are meaningless too, the sooner you realize that the better...

Me feeling guilty because my tap water is cleaner than a third world country wouldn't accomplish anything. According to your logic we should all feel guilty for every purchase we've ever made, because pollution was caused when the product was created. And did you tell me to grow up and drink tap water like an adult? That has to be the single dumbest thing I've ever heard. Insult me personally all you want, you aren't going to change my opinion on this. You're just wasting your time.

Man did you miss the point. Water is completely different from almost everything else in that you can get it for 1/1000th the cost FROM YOUR TAP. We don't have 5 food/entertainment/etc faucets in our homes like we do water.

"Me feeling guilty because my tap water is cleaner than a third world country wouldn't accomplish anything."
-If you took ACTION and drank tap it would. It's all about thinking then acting, neither of which you're doing. Why did you even watch this movie then by the way? They presented logical reason after logical reason to be against bottled water, but you ignore it then brag about it like a buffoon. That's why I called you childish, your whole original post is seemingly from a tween squawking loudly to their immature friends about doing something dumb. Also your 'I don't like the taste wwaaahhhh' didn't help.

"Insult me personally all you want, you aren't going to change my opinion on this."
-So you posted...why? To make a 'neener neener' type thread about how awful of a person you are? Actually given your childish actions/words, it makes sense.

Hi, I'm a representative of Pepsi-cola, and I approve OP's message.
Tap water does not taste pleasant and can't guarantee safe from common diseases found in public waters. If you want pure and safe water source, please drink more Aquafina water. Dasani and nestle waters aren't good for you either.

the OP is the culprit...Pepsi might be an enabler but the OP is causing the damage
