Lauryn, I totally uderstand where you're coming from. As an American who has performed Middle Eastern (belly) dance professionally for many years, I've had to put up with stigma the dance has undeservedly earned as being a glorified strip tease, instead of the artform it actually is (not to mention the predjudice against the Middle East in general). One of the main reasons people feel this way is because they are not exposed to real authentic performances, and only see the cheap imititaions that are often shown in the movies and on television. As flawed as this show is, it still gives people the opportunity to be exposed to cultures and authentic dances that they might not otherwise get a chance to be exposed to, and that is a very good thing. However, if it it wasn't judged, they could spend the airtime on better things like giving a detailed background and history of the dances and the cultures they are featuring.
Closing time James...last call.
