One word....what? She got played. I'm sorry but that gave me chills. I used to tap and maybe people don't understand it but she scared me a little bit. That performance I expected to be boring because tap is usually boring but that lady really did well and the judges were too harsh.
I agreed with Dormiesha when she said that the judges simply weren't educated in tap dancing. What she did on that stage was AMAZING. I didn't think it was necessary to give her tens or anything, but I feel like the tapping she did was AT LEAST on par with the Irish step dancing soloist who I feel was scored too high, and definitely above the Australian tap dancer, who was scored above her. That was my main complaint!
I totally agree about the Irish step dancer soloist's score. I know nothing about step dance footwork, but her upper body and arm technique looked pretty sloppy to me. And what was with all that hair flipping? Anywho, I totally agreed with the tap dancer. I have a problem with these judges who seem to be pretty clueless about most of the technique, culture and history behind alot the dances they are judging. These comments like, "not enough dance content" and "not really dancing and this is dance competition" are pissing me off. It's not always about how many pirouettes someone can do. It's called art, and if they don't get it, why do they even feature those performances on the show?
I love tap, but I found her choreography uninspired and her comments arrogant.
Watch some of the modern greats, most of whom you can find on Youtube: Savion Glover, of course; Gregory Hines; Jimmy Slyde; Diane "Lady Di" Walker, also in the movie "Tap" - they are not boring, and it's not all the loud, stomping, 500 taps per second style.
I agree with most here (which does not happen a lot) her scores should have been higher... I thought she did a great job... much better then the first Argentine solo chick who got 10's for dancing around a chair.
I didn't find her comments arrogant; I found them to be true.
Dormiesha IS one of the modern greats, actually. Like she mentioned in her spot prior to her performance, she danced with Savion in Noise/Funk, she danced in Black and Blue with many of the people you mentioned, and she teaches all around the country at tap festivals with those same people. She CAN do the loud stomping thing, but I think she was trying to go for the classier softer style.
I wasn't talking about the loud, stomping "Tap Dogs" kind of tap, and when she made the comment that the judges were uneducated about tap, without knowing their backgrounds, she was arrogant.
Perhaps we just agree to disagree then. Because I really do think that if the judges WERE educated in tap, they would not have given her 7s, and did she get a 6 too? ESPECIALLY considering they had given the Australian tapper significantly higher scores, and her dancing was harder than hers despite the fact that they style was more subtle.
