Camera Work

Say what you want about how bad the judges are (and they are - the decision making is definitely flawed).

Worse is the camera work.

Have you noticed that they seem to cut away at a critical or interesting part of the dance?

I could even put up with the poor judging, but I want to see the dancing! The director needs to be replaced!

Yea, I noticed. Especially during S. Africa's ballroom. Your not alone:)

NBC has had this problem forever. They tend to do close-ups of faces, weird camera angles, awkward angles, etc. This was one of the problems with their broadcast of the Olympics, bad camera work.

OMG!!!
I like the show's concept and love to see so many dancers, but yeah, the camera work is sloppy at best. I get so frustrated, because it is on the parts I want to see most that they cut away. Usually those cuts are to shots that are too close or too far away to see footwork.

The camera work with that 'montage' of the Shaolin and Groovaloos was awful.

I hear you. For me though, it isn't so much the frustrating camera work as it is the awkward cuts. Why is it that during tonight's South African solo, they kept cutting to the audience? Is it because they wanted to make the performance less about the dancer and her artistic interpretation, and more about the spectacle? Think what you want about her performance, but seriously, the editing during her dance, with the constant cuts to some "wtf?" reactions by audience members, made her performance look like a freak show, not a dance. They did that to the Argentinian soloist too, but to a lesser extent and for much less injurious reasons.

I agee. The camera during the last Irish group perfomace was really frustrating to watch. I kept wanting to see what was going on in the other angle.

Well they had enough cameras that I'm pretty sure they had some good shots, but the editing was HORRIBLE. Even with the judges. There was a couple of times that they'd flash to a cut scene of the judges and the scores in the scene weren't even for the dance that was just shown. My 10 year old nephew could have at least keep track of which scores to show. Worst editing I've ever seen in a "professional" television show.
