that house is absolutely gorgeous on the outside! anyone know where it is? or is it just on a movie lot somewhere.

It is Ardoyne Plantation in Houma, Louisiana.

Yep. This house is a plantation in Houma, LA. It's located on Hwy 311 and the film crew didn't have to do much to make it look so overgrown. Still, what a beautiful house and what amazing "Gingerbread" detail!
