The first film in this series was a masterpiece...

...the next two wouldn't even make decent Law and Order SVU shows.

It's true. The second film was shot and looked like a lousy police procedural made for TV. It even looked like it was shot on video.

The second and third film look like they were made for TV? Well duh. It because they were made for TV. They were only shown in theaters because of the popularity of the first one.

I agree with the OP's thread contention.

I think the weakness of the next 2 episodes is related directly to the books from which they are adapted.

And that is that we virtually never see Lisbeth and Mikael working together any more. The really interesting dynamic they establish in the first book/movie just appears eternally broken and they again operate in completely different environments.

Lisbeth doesn't actually even do a lot of kicking up hornets in this film as she spends just about the whole movie in hospital or custody.

I agree about the second, but this one....? Really? It's a vast improvement, whether it be the cinematography, the acting, or the overall story execution.

I can completely understand why David Fincher is ok with not filming two sequels for "tattoo.".

I finally hunkered down to watch them, instead of waiting to read the books first. I'm sure the books are slot better, and maybe the extended cut of the Swedish films is better, but as standalone theatrical releases, these were snooze-fests.
