I need opinions...

Let me start off by saying, this is one of the most underrated and one of my favorite movies of the 2010's. However this is where I need the opinions of the good folk of IMDB. Who else thinks this movie could've been near perfection if it had been directed by Martin Scorsese? What is your thoughts on this?

I like this movie as well. Martin Scorsese is s great director, but the great gatsby would been an entirely different film if he had directed it. It's suppose to bold and colorful and loud. Great Gatsby fits Baz Lurhman's direction and style.

I see what you're saying and I've got your point. Martin Scorsese has a more gritty style of direction and it might not feel right.

And "the departed" is on my top 5 favorite movies. Lol
It would be cool if there was a darker modern version of the great gatsby made into a movie.

The Departed is easily my favorite movie of his.

I would've LOVED to see this film directed by Martin Scorsese! Maybe he would've gotten rid of all that unnecessary horrendous CGI.

I too really did enjoy this version, I give it an 8/10.

Problem is that the novel is a 10/10 - so I still wish I could have a movie as perfect.

Martin Scorsese would be ill fit for the task in my opinion, as Scorsese seems to have an allergy toward complex emotional yearning, and romanticism. Although his excellent "Age Of Innocence" may seem close, tonally it was also sort of distant and cold.

I think the perfect filmmaker for this material would be Adrian Lyne or Sam Mendes.

That was exactly what my buddies and I said while watching the movie. It really needs a touch of Scorsese because, in my opinion, it fits his general criteria. Adapting an amazing classic with a narrator just spits out "Scorsese" all over the place.

And another thing, I hate it when people don't separate their signatures from their posts.

I agree with awkwardboy, Scorsese would be an excellent director of Gatsby (or pretty much anything) but it would be a radically different take. Baz has his own style and Scorsese's got his.
