Does anyone else find this a complete mess of a movie

It's literally just cgi, decadence, and unfitting mainstream music with the occasional one-liner from the book. This film is so all over the place that I can't believe anyone could take it seriously. Perhaps Baz was trying to emulate the drunk hysteria of the era but holy cow it was so freaking messy.

This is one of the most under appreciated films. Movies are about the feeling you get and the place they take you to. I can feel myself in the twenties. I can feel being Nick harboring all secrets. I can feel the heartbreak Gatsby has when Daisy slips through his fingers right in front of him at the hotel. The movie does an immensely effective job of matching weather, music, people, and scenes to each bit of the story. The pace is meant to be frantic, but is slowed down just enough when needed. Watch this movie in one sitting, without distraction, and become engrossed in it and I'm sure you'll start to see it differently.

Wholeheartedly agree...I'm in Spain and this movie just came on and I had to stop what I was doing and watch it out of respect and admiration for its storytelling. Every time I've seen it on television randomly (usually while traveling), I watch it until the very end...yes, through all the credits as well. Highly entertaining film.

And for what it's worth: I appreciate the frantic pace and anachronistic soundtrack way more than a movie like Moulin Rouge that had my head spinning with nausea.

 Relax...it's just a message board
