So, the young girl ...

... when they met her in the woods, why was she there?

At first I thought she might have followed them, maybe to warn them, but she was wearing what looked like some kind of ceremonial cloak. So then I thought she might have been sent into "the curse" as some kind of ritual, a sacrifice maybe, to keep some sort of balance, but it was never mentioned and she wasn't seen again in the film.

So why was she there?

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

I think those were just her clothes.
She talked to them earlier so I would assume that she followed them to see what they were doing/if they were going into the fog.

I think she was kind of meant to be a red herring. Like we think she's lured tourists into the crypt to trap them for sacrifice. But in reality she just saw them go into the fog and knew that she couldn't let them leave. She locked them in and ran and got the grownups to deal with it.
I think after they get captured by the men from the village, Henrik is seen off to the side talking to Lydia.
He was probably saying something like "good job locking them up but it's not safe to be out here go home."- thus why we never see her after that.
She was just a curious little girl in the right place at the right time and then she went home.

She was there to lure them to get checked out by the priest, and killed if necessary.
