One thing I don't quite understand about the film......*spoilers*

I'm guessing the person has to be awake during the ritual for it to work, but I just don't see why they couldn't of drugged the people so they're not in as much pain or as scared. I understood why they had to do what they did but I still felt so bad for those who went through all that not knowing why it had to be done....wouldn't it of been better to tie them down, put a drug in them to numb the pain...or maybe put them to sleep while using something to hold open their eyes.....maybe someone can explain it to me because at the end I sat there going "Oh okay I get why that had to happen....but what was the point of putting so much fear into them by chasing them and shooting them"

I'm thinking their sole focus was probably on successfully killing the demon. I know mine would be. It would be nice if they could kill it humanely, but that looked like one seriously elaborate ritual they had to complete. If they started adding comfort measures, they might mess around and accidentally skip a step.

I bet the first few times they had to do the whole ritual, they sat down afterwards to discuss ways of making it more comfortable for the possessed. But after they saw enough people get their intestines ripped out, they decided to keep it simple. Just stick with the basics, and get it done right.

Yep, and there were a few times before I got the twist where I thought some of the glances the 'monks' were exchanging during the ritual were a bit odd - wasn't the sort of robotic ritual we've come to expect. But once you know what's going on, you can tell there was actually some compassion being shown. If they could have spared more compassion, I'm sure they would have.
