i hate that they labeled this a comedy

it's definitely a drama, there were maybe 2 or 3 laughs in the whole movie. it was depressing for the most part and i think even more so cause i'd never seen the main guy act before and he was great as this character. uma's always good as hell, no question she played the confused mid-life crisis having woman in love with a young man yet yearning for a comfortable adult lifestyle he can't provide for her VERY well. there's a vulnerability she plays on screen that makes you think she knows that character all too well. i thought it was a great movie and recommend to anyone who appreciates good acting and natural sounding dialogue.

Just one more dysfunctional wedding party movie. Nothing at all to distinguish it from the several others of its ilk that has been released in the past few years. This genre is extremely limiting.

reply

I agree, this is a drama 100%. I was thinking that I have a problem or I lost my sense of humor because lately I saw only ,,comedies'' like this.. they depress me more than I was before.
Anyway a good drama movie.

Would you be so kind as to name the similar movies so I can check those out?

reply

Two of many are "Rachel Getting Married" and "The Romantics".

reply

I was hoping for some comedies that you weren't able to find funny, meaning I will definitely find them amusing. Not a sobbing drama or a romantic chick flick. You seem to be blending a lot of genres and calling it one genre.

reply

Some of us are lumpers and others are splitters. Tell me, which one of two films I mentioned is a sobbing drama and which is a romantic chick flick? If you want the same theme as a comedy, try "Wedding Crashers."

reply

That's a good one. I absolutely love Wedding Crashers. I haven't seen Rachel Getting Married but it looks remarkably depressing, which is probably why it's not tagged as a comedy.

reply

I disagree - I think it is a comedy and probably the best genre listing choice for it. The plot sounds like a romantic comedy but it plays out more like a coming-of-age drama, so for that I am glad it's not classified as a romance-comedy.

But I absolutely do think it is a comedy. I laughed the whole way through and I definitely didn't find it depressing.

The movie is hilarious, and the entire premise is a joke. I have no clue what you could have found dramatic about it.

reply

I thought this movie was very funny, at least until the last 20 minutes or so, at which point it acquires some depth. But then I also think "Margot at the Wedding" is very funny (as well as disturbing). Not that it has much in common with them beyond involving weddings, but for what it's worth, I thought "Bridesmaids" was too much about depression and self-loathing to be funny. Plus the jokes were broad and predictable.

reply

I always feel like I'm taking crazy pills when a movie like Bridesmaids is regarded as being hilarious while a movie like Ceremony gets swept aside.

reply

I'm totally with ya there.

You guys are nuts!

I didn't see much humor in it at all. Way more drama than laughs.
