What is that on the desk, between Lacon and Smiley?

What is that prismatic object on the table, between Lacon and Smiley, when they are having their first discussion -- Lacon is revealing to Smiley there is a mole and he wants him to catch the mole?
The object is visible starting at 16:59 approximately, and is not visible anymore by 17:54.
The object sits to Lacon's right hand, on his desk, and it is translucent, you can see an armchair through it. It looks like a an empty glass prism, square section, six walls, four long and rectangular on the sides, two square and small at the bottom and top, all made of grey glass, with white metal brackets keeping the walls together (at the bottom and top).
The object looks like a long and narrow box, sitting vertically on one of the small square faces, about one foot and a half tall, empty inside.
No idea if it is decorative or serves an utilitarian purpose.
Very annoying that this site does not allow pictures to be attached.
I have posted the same in Quora with a picture of the damn thing!

I thought it might be some sort of business card holder, but damn! That's a lot of business cards. Also, why would it be in Lacon's home? My only other thought is that it's some kind of <>, designed just to sit on a desktop, to provoke interest and/or controversy, but not actually to have any real purpose. Believe it or not, in the days before those silly ball-bearing things, there was these. I myself wore two-tone saddle shoes, made of suede, in those days. Orange and brown; I have no explanation. It was a thing in those days.
