One of my favorite films of all times.

This is actually the very first time I post on the message boards here at IMDB, but honestly there couldn't have come a better time. I watch a ton of movies on a regular basis and love the site just never got around to posting. Regardless more about the movie:

I heard about this film like many others I suppose because of its Oscar Nomination (and win), I looked into it and found the trailer compelling, I'm not even one to watch many foreign films. Anyways I found the movie and downloaded it, immediately as the movie started I found it very interesting, with the characters developing I only fell more and more in love with it. This film was absolutely moving, easily my favorite films of 2010, the acting is superb from all angles in this film, but especially from the children, its sensational. The plot I thought was an interesting one, and the movie takes some turns I never expected. This is now up there with some of my favorite film of all time because of its genius.

And then you went out and bought it, to send some money to the creators? ;)

I enjoyed it very much... At the beginning, I was thinking: "This is a decent enough film." But, it got better and better and, by the time we got to the bombing, I was on the edge of my seat..! I left the cinema feeling I'd seen an excellent film and uncharacteristically excited. Though, I overheard someone who'd also been in the screening say that he found it a depressing film... Like my other favourite foreign-language film of the year - "How I Ended My Summer" - it's not without faults... After all the fuss about taking a knife into school, calling the car-bombing an act of "harsh vandalism", which would be dealt with by social services seemed a distinct under-reaction... And, I wasn't sure that enough time was spent in Africa... Of course, we saw what we needed to see of his life in Africa. But, with the greater part of the film taking place in Denmark, it seemed a little out of balance. But, as with "How I Ended My Summer", the acting was fab and I was completely engrossed. So, I was more than happy to turn a blind eye to the odd little problem and simply enjoy a generally excellent film.

Just saw it at our Nordic Film Festival and was excited to see it since it got the Oscar last year. I was not disappointed...all of the people I went with agreed it was extraordinary.

Still thinking about it 3 days later....the acting was so superb, especially the children. Some of the scenes were just overwhelming.

While all the adults were great in this film, the child actors totally blew me away. Believable and natural.

I loved this movie, and it's one of those that stayed with me for quite a while after watching it.

It really sticks with you! I saw it on Netflix and kind of in pieces over the course of a few days because I kept getting distracted and had lots of work etc. but I did get a chance to view it a few times and I always see something new. Sometimes I just love the music and the cinematography and watch it for that -- it was unique.

Has anyone heard of or seen KONY2012? That Joseph Kony reminded me of "The Big Man" in this film. Anyone else feel that way?

I can see how it is perceived as an under-reaction, but it is how things are done here (Sweden, Denmark, Norway). The kids are under 15 (at least I assume they are?) and thus can not be prosecuted in a court of law. Social services will engage the case to see what their family situations are like or if something else has gone wrong in their lives etc.

I think the parents in a case like this would somehow be sentenced to pay for the damages, but I am not completely sure how that works.
