This film rocks, it deserves an Oscar!

Hey, it's in the running for one now!

I looked it up because I could've sworn I'd heard the title before...and I see it's Aussie! Yay! How exciting. I want to see it!

It's a great film - I saw it last night at the In the Bin short film festival - which is travelling around Oz atm.

~No, but if we did we'd probably deep fry them!

I bet they'll show it on tv sometime soon - I remember when that short film The Saviour was nominated for an Oscar a few years back they showed it on SBS. - or after the Oscars are over its bound to pop up on the net somewhere!

hppg,

Oh, shoot!
Your country's lovely, btw.
And, yes ... the LM theaters site only covers my nation, America.
Rats.

SBS?
What's that, hppg?

"Miracle Fish" should NOT be missed, in my opinion.

Oh, cool!

Thanks . I can always learn here. And, I do.

OT, but: Say, how's your Fall / Autumn down there? Our winter is mild up here: 16 celsius for daily highs which are great. That's about low 50's farenheit, isn't it? Yeah, mild for us for the mid of Winter.

hppg,

Yeah, well .. to YOU, 16 degrees Celsius IS cold, even for winter. For us, highs in the 50's Fareneheit is mild. Maybe we are hitting even 18 degrees C. America does not use the metric system (like you, Canada Asia and Europe do) so ... I am merely guessing here. Do you get upwards of 30C in the summer? Maybe even 40 or higher, then?

reply

Haha yeah I don't understand fahrenheit very well. Normally summer here is early-mid 30s and sometimes it'll be over 40 degrees, yeah.

Ahhm, so you all get to about ... 86-90 degrees Fahrenheit, then? That's fairly hot, if I do say so myself.

I definitely have to disagree. This film (in terms of storytelling) was really poorly executed and unevenly paced. There's very little set-up and even less pay off at the end. I didn't feel empathetic at all toward the main character and the ending really seems to come out of nowhere.

The boy is eerily calm in the face of life-threatening danger. I didn't even know what type of film I was watching until I saw the bloody hand print... and by that time it was too late. I didn't care anymore.

I wouldn't say it's the top short film ever, but it is definitively the best of the five oscar nominated this year, I didn't really liked the rest of them, but this one had suspense and an interesting and surprising twist when you find out why is the kid really alone. well done.

I'm doing this to bump this thread to the top.
