Why do American think that Chavez is a dictator?

He is not a dictator by any stretch? The US supported Pinochet, the Shah or Iran and Saddam Hussein at one point. Those were dictators. The US supports the House of Saud and it's closer to a dictatorship than Venezuela. Why does the American media lie and say stuff like that?

reply

Because it's not their dictator.

I think he's dictator because people from venazuela say he is,

like the other guy said he's not our dictator, we have backed some stupid people that have no common ground with our what america is suppose stand for.

Oliver likes this guy, why i don't know, maybe he thanks chavez will take over america and if kiss his ass chavez will let him continue make crap movies.

I myself have not yet found my dictator, i to egotistical for anyone else to rule me, but my fellow country men and women continue vote for idoits,

Bush's, Clintons, obama lama, . Even thought reagen supposidly cut taxes, he still gave nappom, or some type weapon to an enemie that killed our own troops, and the cold war was so sissyfied, We should just fought russia straight up, It would saved us some trouble with those desert people that blow them selves up and treat women like dirt.

I live in America and I think our leaders are dictators. so that must mean its true.

Misspelling words on purpose does not make you cool.

reply

Exactly, because he is terrible for us and our allies, and only wishes harm upon the US.

reply

Then All people that is considered a threat to U.S. should be demonized and/or eliminated?

And he doest wish harm upon U.S. he only thinks in a different way than the U.S. Administration... Im from Venezuela, and i consider that U.S. people are equals to cuban, Spanish or Venezuelan people...

just because a dictator cuts ties with the US/Corp US doesn't mean he is somehow good. All govts are failures of efficient organization and trend toward corruption, at least in the US we have antagonists to govt power in the big corps.

reply

Chavez is NEITHER a dictator nor a hero. He had the chance to do so much more for his people and for the world and he blew it. He lacks creative imagination. But what he does NOT lack is multiple legitimate democratically won elections. Yes he is less popular today than he was five years ago but it has taken 14 years for him to even begin to become as unpopular as most US Presidents become in 14 months. In terms of substance he is quite mediocre.

Chavez isn't a dictator just like Kim Jong-Il isn't a dictator. Just look at North Korea, it's a veritable Utopian Garden of Eden. Personal freedoms and wealth abound in North Korea for even the lowest peoples. Kim Jong-Il and Hugo Chavez are kind, gentle, misunderstood men. They're obviously of the same conservative rightwing that the US forefathers came from. Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Franklin....those are the names that should be synonymous with Chavez and Jong-Il. When it comes to Socialism, Marxism, Communism those are the ways to go. obviously, every time it's been tried those societies thrived and now exist as grand utopias......right?

reply

There is a huge difference between an elected government like the one Chavez runs and a totalitarian dictatorship like Kim Jong Il's. There is also a huge difference between the Founding Fathers and modern rightwing conservatives - the Founding Fathers were revolutionaries who fought for liberty and equality, whereas rightwing conservatives in the US nowadays fight against freedoms... nearly all their policies are negative or punitive, including the efforts to remove Jefferson from the history books in Texas because he is too "liberal".

You don't know anything about Socialism, Marxism, or Communism (and the huge differences between them) so you should probably leave them out of your arguments.

If bush had run his government like chavez did the outrage would have been uncomprehendable. Doing things like expanding then flooding the supreme court with your plants to do your dirty work and other nonsense. But this is the problem with oliver stone, he is extremely critical of the us, but completely blind when it comes to fawning adoration of the socialist leaders he's doing puff pieces about. Its shameful

Never ind his blind eye to the openly antisemitic views....which have been revealed to match his own.

Maybe because he was just granted the power to rule by decree.

reply

Because he replaced the constitution of Venezuela, controls all the media, and often murders the opposition.

reply

Three points, three blatant lies.

reply

Well, It is very strange when you look it from Europe.
Chavez is as much dictator as any US president.
It is only about the methods. In USA it is very subtle and cloaked into the policy.
The only difference is that US president terrorize the rest of the world too.
