Venezuela today: a reason why Olive Stone must be ashamed of this film

...and no, I'm not a Republican or a conservative of any kind. In fact I tend to vote Democratic, and I consider myself a pretty much center person if anything slightly left leaning when it comes to politics.

That being said, Chavez brought Venezuela towards a downward spiral as far economic instability and violations of civil rights. When Maduro took over after Chavez, it all collapsed. Hence why we are seeing the multiple protests that now escalate to dozens of deaths at the hands of the Venezuelan Nation Guard. Even liberal and left leaning celebrities are criticizing the government of Maduro for his ruthless actions against his people.

What must Oliver Stone be thinking now?

I totally agree with your opinion.

In fact Venezuela today is runned by a dictatorship supported by Cuban communists.
The results? high inflation rates, violations of civil rights, over the top criminality rate.

Considering Oliver Stone still thinks Cuba, China and the USSR are socialist Utopias and that he makes garbage agitprop like this precisely to aggrandize and obfuscate the truth about such dictatorships and regimes, I don't think he cares. Oliver Stone isn't in possession of honesty or integrity.

Well this film was made in 2009 when Chavez was still alive and Venezuala wasnt doing do bad. Then the worldwide financial crisis hit, Chavez passed, Maduro doesn't seem to know what he's doing and so here we are. Stuff happens, things change. It's 2016 and its unfair to critique the film upon that, unless he made a second film updated until now.
