Why throw a fit???

I seriously don't see why people make a fuss about gays being able to marry. Who is it hurting? It's not like it would effect anyone directly, except those it would benefit. I seriously see no reason for gays to be unable to marry. I was reading one of the threads here, and they were rather heated, but throughout it all, I was wondering why these people who were defending Prop 8 so adamantly were doing so??? I seriously don't get why people are so against it. It is one thing to not like gays, to be homophobic, to be prejudice, whatever. That's your business. But when you let it actually affect the lives of others??? Wtf. How can someone live with themselves when they have such a negative impact on the lives of people who love someone and want to marry them???!

Why yes on Prop 8??? How can there be so many unjust people? And I am simply wondering how they justify their decision???

I completely agree. I've heard a lot of arguments against gay marriage, and they're all ridiculous. It's appalling that in this country, where freedom and the rights of the individual are held in such high esteem, an entire group of our people are being denied basic rights for such flimsy reasons.

I love both of your reasoning. That is really the just way to think. Civil Rights should be for everyone, not just heterosexuals. Why should gays be the only ones unable to marry their loved one?

I have the same question. The Catholic Church will probably never recognize gay marriage and that's their choice, but in this country we (falsely of course) claim that there's a separation of church and state, so it shouldn't really be a "moral" issue anyway, just a legal one.

Still no response from the Right I see.

I'll respond from the right, but I'm not here to argue. I have gay friends and quite frankly I think they should be allowed to take part in a legal marriage. Get the piece of paper, sign the name, live and grow in the relationship, fight, make-up, raise kids, fight again...everything I so enjoy with my wife.

However as a Christian I have a hard time with those marriages being considered "Holy union" or being performed in a church. I think this area should be the shining example of separation of church and state.

Most importantly to me is that homosexuals out there understand that not all of us over here on the right are against you. I believe that Jesus loves everyone equally and far be it from me to suggest that my beliefs about what constitutes a biblical lifestyle will stop that.

They should just let it be legal and if a church won't perform the ceremony it is their right.

the catholic chruch will NOT recognize any marriage that did not happen in their church irregardless of who is in it, so I fail to see why they would have a problem with two men getting married.

In another thread someone said that he (at least I assume it was a guy) didn't want his tax money going towards gay marriage, but he seems perfectly fine with money from the taxation from those of different sexual orientation going to benefit the marriage of heterosexuals.
I just find that funny.

Another funny thing I find funny, someone far older than me once remarked that the best way to stop gay sex would be to let them get married, if their marriage was anything like his the sex would end in under a year.

One thing that really annoys me in this entire ordeal, is when someone throws "civil union" around, telling us it's "just as good" as marriage, if a civil union is just as good then why do you have to stop them from marriage?

As an outsider (English here), the American anti-gay marriage reaction just reminds me of a child who doesn't want to share a toy, sharing doesn't lose anything for you but by with holding you're only going to hurt the other children.
Why can't we all just play nice?

reply

Exactly! It effects no one but those we keep it from. It is completely unfair, selfish, and immature.
And I like those amusing comments... Especially the "if it's like their marriage the sex will end...." LOL
