NOT A SINGLE SH**ISM (spoilers)

I enjoyed the movie. Obviously way better than The Big Dirty. The ending was lacking, it was ridiculous of them to just take Randy in out of the blue and more ridiculous that they end up getting caught to save Lahey. The Lahey thing made sense considering that Randy was with them...I really really would have preferred to see them fail for a different reason, if they had to, but at least the boys aren't going to prison too long and one can write their own little ending to their stories in their mind if they want, which is the right way to end it IMO because it would seem a little off if everything came out rosy in the end and you also don't want to see them go out simply going to prison for 20 years or whatever.

What I really walked away bewildered about was the lack of a single sh**ism in the movie. It's completely unconscionable. Completely unconscionable (sorry, it bears repeating). This is the end of Trailer Park Boys, all bets off, no stops to worry about pulling out, no drop of liquor to save, and no sh**isms to leave in the can...and NONE?!?! NONE?!?! I was shocked, and it honestly bothered my friend and I more than anything else about the movie.

We watched season 5 with someone unfamiliar a couple days later, and it drove home the absurdity of the omission even more...just like any episode with Lahey drinking will. How could this happen? What the *beep* were they thinking?

edit: Holy *beep* I can't believe I said that about the ending without including a spoiler alert. Huge apologies. Even more surprising I didn't get called out on it.

Wow, I don't usually read people's reviews until after I watch anything, but I think you may have put me off watching! It seems ridiculous not to have any sh**isms , thats a key part of the fabric of the show.

I started re-watching TPB series, up to season 3 now and the sh**isms increase with each episode. There is so many (usually little) things which you don't notice on first viewing, it really is something which can be watched over and over.

Its a shame Cory and Trevor aren't in the films too, I think the actors and makers all ended up falling out around about season 6.

Y'know, I watched the uncut extended version somewhat recently, and thought that was cut out of the original. You're right, that certainly is one (the other lines with the boys being referred to as *beep* weasels [without exposition on what makes one a *beep* weasel"], and Ricky calling Lahey a *beep* captain, not so much), and it's a lot better than none, but still very perplexing. Surprised that neither myself, nor my fellow TPB-aholic friend caught that.

Yeah I was a little sad there weren't shi*ism. But as far as them taking Randy in, I didn't mind that, the trailer park was their family so I understood them looking out for him.

Agreed. The movie definitely had more funny moments than "The Big Dirty". Although, it didn't really feel like true TPB until Lahey got back on the liquor. he should've let the sh**isms fly once he was back to his old self. my favorite Lahey line from "Countdown..." is:

Lahey (to cameraman): Want a shot of this sweet jack.... damn that's a dirty drink

reply

Rewatched "Countdown..." today and there's actually only one sh**ism in the movie. at the beginning when Lahey cuts Bubbles hair.

Lahey : "Now Bubbles, there's no reason to crack the sh**crust over this."

reply

there's another one when the guys come rolling up on Lahey and Randy right before Ricky has to apologize to Randy for cutting his hair off..... as they come driving up, they see Randy using the backhoe loading dirt into the back of Lahey's car, Ricky asks "what the *beep* are the Sh** Captain and Tennile up to now?

reply

Being a relatively new TPB fan, I just want to make sure that I understand what you mean by " sh**ism ". I have only watched 2 episodes of the show the the 1st movie, although I am now getting the rest of the series through Netflix and plan on watching them all this weekend. The thing that made me laugh until I nearly pissed myself was in one of the two episodes I watched where Layhey talks about a " sh*t rope " and Bubbles starts freaking out cause he evidentally never heard of a " sh*t rope " before, lol. He starts saying "I'm afraid of " sh*t rope boys " and " We slidin' down some sort of a " sh**ty rope? ". Freakin' hilarious stuff. Those Canadian's are genius!! Anyway, I had no idea that there was a " sh*t " theme that ran through the series, but now I just want to watch them all that much more. So, is my example what you folks consider a " sh**ism " ?

reply

Yeah that's a sh**ism. I didn't really think about it, but you guys are right. There were barely any at all. And the sh**isms were always my favorite lines from Lahey. Ah well.
