Is Julian gay or what?

I don't really follow the series. It's hard to watch it where I live. Still, I loved the first movie, but this movie felt so different in many ways. And I was wondering, did Julian become gay between the first movie and this one? Or bisexual maybe? Because there were so many gay undertones in this movie. It was clear for Lahey and Randy, but then Julian eventually said that he loved Lahey. He just said that to make him shut up, but Ricky was more shocked that he loved Lahey than to learn that Julian said he loved a guy. In the first movie, Julian had a thing with a girl, that's the main reason why I am confused. Anyway I'd just like some light to be shed on all this. Thanks!
