Cyrus is one manipulative dude.

SPOILERS.

He's so selfish, it took the end of the movie for him to find out that he was stopping his mum from being happy. Okay so you are used to it being just you and your mother, all of us who were raised as only children in a single parent family are used to that situation, but if your mother is interested in someone and they're interested in her as well then i don't see what the problem is. Cyrus needs to just mind his own business, his ways are on the borderline of Norman Bates from Bates Motel.

There was a scene where Cyrus snapped at his mother and stormed out to make her feel bad so that she would want to keep him at the house, and when he stormed out he then spied on her for a few seconds through the glass window door thingy and had a nasty smirk on his face then took off - that is not very nice, he is not caring about his mother's happiness.

The mother and son relationship was a bit off at times, both teenage son and mother being in the bathroom at the same time - her in the shower and him just casually walking in there to use the toilet - that isn't right.

The boyfriend stooped down to his level, he should have just told the girlfriend straight up that he thinks Cyrus is playing games example hiding his trainers and foolishness like that.

He sure is... I do believe that he suffer from an Oidipus complex (in love with his mother).

But that's what makes the movie different.

And the reason John C Reilly didn't say anything to Marisa Tomei was because she would most likely take Cyrus side.
