Alvin the Chipmunk

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

LOL! Yes!
She was definitely the weakest part of this movie. If she quit with the weird singing out of the back of her throat or whatever, she would be decent.

She reminded me of a little girl who tries too hard to sign melodramatically during the Star Spangled Banner.

I totally disagree with you guys! I loved hersigning voice! Both Julianne Hough was gorgeous and her voice was beautiful! Julianne Hough is one of the reasons I like this movie and the rock music is awesome!!

Its odd because I saw the Broadway play a few months before I saw the movie and the girl who played Sherry in it had that high pitch girly girl voice too, which leads me to think thats the voice they were going for . I guess shes supposed to sound young and naive?

And yet...I saw the version in Vegas (which was excellent btw), and that Sherry did not sound like a chipmunk. Young and spunky yes, but didn't sound like the 45 record was playing on 78...if you are old enough to know what that means!

I agree. I'm watching it right now. She'd fit right in on the chipmunks soundtrack. I don't get why they'd cast someone who sings like a cutesy little girl. It is a ROCK musical after all.

I didn't mind the singing, I really expected her to dance much better in her stripper scenes. That's more her talent. Probably trying to turn us into her singing instead so didn't dance as well.

reply

I agree 100%. I don't know how she got cast. She is a horrible singer!

Just watched it again and have to agree. Very enjoyable as an homage to 80s big-hair rock bands, power-ballads, lifestyle excess and so on. Most of the characters, especially Stacee Jaxx, really nailed the combination of rock star awesomeness and laughable narcissism. The one glaring distraction is the lead blonde girl's singing voice, like she took a hit of helium before each song or they auto-tuned her voice up to chipmunk level. It might slide with a country music theme (twangy steel guitars, trailer park trash, etc.) but not punchy enough for a rock movie. Thing is, a lot of teenage American girls these days do actually sound like Munchkins (who are too young to know what that means).

Yes! I'm not even a quarter way thru the movie and her voice is like nails on a chalkboard! Absolutely awful singing!

I don't know if I can finish the movie if she keeps this up!

RIP David Bowie 💕
