the ending...? ***SPOILERS***

okay, i kinda sorta get the idea of keeping her alive and hung upside down, yet i don't. what on earth makes the ghouls think that by doing this she's going to last any longer? from what i could see, her one leg was ripped off and she has already lost too much blood. so why on earth would she be hung upside-down for them to come feast again? why didn't they just finish her off? makes no sense, really. one more day of "eating" isn't going to do them much good since their suppliers are now gone. or are we led to believe that the son is the one who hung her upside-down? still makes no sense, seeing how he was fighting them off.

someone please explain this to me. i'm totally confused by the lack of logic. don't get me wrong-- i really enjoyed the film. i thought it had some interesting twists to it. but the ending isn't jiving too well with my logic. it can't be a dream, b/c the barn is burnt down... wasn't burnt down when she was first hanging there in the middle of the film. even then, why would she still be alive and that other "john wayne" guy not be?

UGH! hurts the brain!

Every now and then we get a total nut to film a movie, This is one case where nothing made sense even for hardcore fans. Just who gives money for this stuff to be filmed is beyond me, It gives starving artistic people hope that if you keep looking you may find someone to back your project, even though you may know the work is not that good.

I guess she passed out from pain when that zombie was gnawing her leg, then had the dream.

It didn't really make a whole lot of sense to me either... except that I do have the idea that she was pregnant from the beginning... that is somehow why she is on the road. She seems to be moving or running away... in a bit of a desperate place.
So I think that is why the mudmen didn't eat her... they could smell that she was pregnant and somehow... I dunno... but there's similar things in Predator II and Aliens 3... and this movie was full of squirts from other classics.

Her dream at the end had her playing house with the most recent guy to make her heart go pitter pat... neglecting that he had set her up as lunch to begin with.

The big questions for me remain:
1. What were they thinking when they went back to the shack?
2. Why did the mudmen eat her leg and then hang her up again?

Not a great movie, but it has intriguing bits, looks good and the acting is decent. The character of the mother is the most interesting to me... when I first saw her I figured she was a bit character but hoped she'd turn out to be the villain... and had this whole alternative take where she turns out to be a modern day Baba Yaga, come to feast on the flesh of little lost children... and then her truck stop shack sprouts chicken legs and walks away. THE END

My take is that she was destined to be be the new one to feed the mud people and perhaps start a new hybrid race,I think the older woman was a half human and half mud thingo, therefore her son was too.

Was the ending a glimpse into her future (pregnant by the mud things or the son of the older woman)...she could have been wearing a peg leg later in the cafe scene. I think the mud critters chewed off the leg to save her and left her hanging upside down so she would not bleed to death while waiting for the son to come rescue her.
The brand on her neck was to id her for the future mother of a mud baby.
