An Absolute Classic!

Just saw this at the New York Horror Film Festival at Tribeca Cinemas and was blown away by it. The closest comparison I can come up with is Shaun Of The Dead, but this made Shaun look like amateur hour. I hope they can get a good distribution deal so more people can see it. A must see...

Totally different style to Shaun of the Dead. Can't really compare, but if I had to choose one, it'd sliiiiightly be Shaun of the Dead.

This is a brilliant movie though.

reply

Quite unwatchable really; unless you like to hear that *beep* word in every sentence, sometimes 2 or 3 times. Without that word the film would probably have lasted 20 minutes. Surely we could have had a script without the excessive use of what seems to be the only adjective Americans know.

And yes I did switch off very early on, because there seemed to be no let-up to the foul language.

reply

"oh noes they said the F word what a bad movie"

reply

I hardly even noticed that they said *beep* a lot...

reply

Watched it randomly. Thought it would suck. Turned out to be a little awesome.

Checking out Shaun of the Dead....

What impressed me was that, on some level, their behavior seemed plausible...

reply

There was swearing?

reply

Agreed, it was excessive to the point of ruining the movie for me, and I think that says a lot coming from a person who doesn't give a *beep* about swearing. The Big Lebowski is one of my favorite movies, but they *beep* didn't *beep* swear so *beep* much that it *beep* ruined whatever *beep* dialogue they were *beep* trying to *beep* say. *beep*!

reply

Please *beep* off.

reply

Soooo... blood, violence & horror - perfectly acceptable but just please don't cuss hey? WTF is wrong with you?

reply

Watches horror movie.

Doesn't mind the gore.

Doesn't mind the sex toys.

Foul language and runs for cover.

ROFL

This was the most original and realistic take on the vampire movie genre I have ever seen. In the age where vampires are androgynous and glitter in the sunlight, this was a real gem to be reminded that vampires are the undead.

reply

Better than Shaun of the Dead if you ask me.
Deserves much more attention and a better rating than this.

reply

yep

i wasnt expecting much but i.d say this tops shaun.

what a journey

reply

Yes it is. A Great film indeed!!

This is a fantastic horror-comedy. The thing about Shaun of the Dead is that while it is a horror-comedy too, it's not really terribly scary. It's a comedy with zombies, rather than a horror movie with laughs. Where I think "Drag Me To Hell" and "Evil Dead 2" are particularly clever is that they have you scared and laughing simultaneously.

I have a list of horror comedies here:

I really need to update it, but at the time that was my top 15.

i see a cult potential in this movie

I havent been this blown away of a zombie movie since Dawn of the Dead (the 2004 remake).

If only this great gem would have had a liiiittle more budget, so they could have afforded a decent original score. At points, it really does sound like someone is sitting and playing the score on a Casio keyboard from 1988.

But man oh man. This movie was a goldmine for a zombiefan. Not a gem. A complete goldmine. Faith in zombiegenre- renewed. Now I can take like 7 or 8 years of more crap zombieflicks.

Shaun of the Dead and The Revenant aren't really comparable movies so I don't see why you would bring that up. Anyways, if you did compare them, you'd see that Shaun has a vastly superior script with a lot of witty jokes. I really liked The Revenant, great movie, but it's not as good as Shaun on several accounts.

reply

I wouldn't compare it to Shaun of the Dead, very different films, but The Revenant is great, surprisingly good.

lol Yeah they're nothing alike, but both are great. The only thing that gets me is the people complaining about the foul language over violence. No amount of F or S is worse than violence which for some reason seems perfectly okay. Don't get me wrong I enjoy both I won't even try to pretend that I don't. ;)

reply

So a guy gets his face eaten off by fish and comes back from the dead to chainsaw another guy apart, and you are offended by swear words???? Well, here on our planet, we think serious violence is WAAAAYYY more offfensive!
